Let's see... going to really shitty series I read back in elementary school... Animorphs gives us the Pemalites, long extinct alien pacifist dogmen who are actually the ancestors of Earth's dogs... sort of.

This is ancient, but there was an intelligent canine species in John Campbell's Invaders from the Infinite (1932)
