Umm According to Christian Bale himself, this new movie is following the storylines of T1 and T2, not so much T3.
CS: What attracted you to another big franchise like "Terminator?"
Christian Bale: Well, initially, actually, that was NOT an attraction. I felt that I wasn't sure where it could go to. Before I gave an answer, I went back and reviewed the other movies. I felt like "Okay, unlike 'Batman Begins,' this would be something where we would be respecting the previous mythology." Certainly of one and two, not so much number three – but certainly you would be recognizing that mythology, unlike "Batman Begins" where we were saying that this is the beginning, right here. But what I view in it, and what has ultimately made me make the choice to make it, is that I see the same potential for reinvention and for breathing new life into the mythology. That's what I view our responsibility as filmmakers to be. It's pointless if we don't succeed in doing that.

It doesn't impress me much, no more than Shania Twain. From what I saw in that, I didn't get the impression or atmosphere of a post-nuke world, I didn't feel the cold presence of the machines, I saw some ABC warrior after it had mated with a Christmas tree. While I'm sure Christian Bale will be watchable, I am certain it will suck since I can see the director just doesn't get it.

I don't understand what they are trying to do with the Terminator franchise these days, frankly, but I will probably decide what to do based on reviews from sources and people I know. I rather detested T3, but was pleasantly surprised by SCC and I think that should be the standard-bearer of the franchise.

Bale's comment about T3 was curious, and I wonder if the SCC and Salvation people are in touch at all. I've rarely seen an element of a franchise so explicitly retconned as SCC's "we're going to go forward in time and make T3 not happen" strategy. :P I'm probably engaging in wishful thinking here, but it would be neat if SCC had like a four-year arc that built into the new Terminator movie(s).

I'm not exactly a "McG" fan, but hey, Michael Bay made Transformers...

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal.

The two camps are not really talking to each other. One SCC writer has read the T4 script (or a version of it at that time), but that is about it. Another SCC writer I know has stated that SCC and T4 will both do their own thing.

Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? Doesn't get what was wrong with T3 and what was right about the real Terminator films. Watch the teasers/trailers for the first two films and you'll see a marked difference from that.

Even in such a trailer you can see the absence of atmosphere and the hollywood mediocrity syndrome. Same thing with Die Hard 4.

Looks...interesting. It seems to be looking like to get rid of all the 'lighter elements of T3 and some of T2 to seems more like a darker addition to the first, which would be great. All of it should be in the 'feel'. T3 didn't 'feel' like a terminator film. It should draw all its story from the first terminator and parts of the second. Leaving out 3 works, just like it did SCC. Which it does look like as in the trailer he didn't have Claire Danes with him. Personally I want just a few things in this film (or the others if it is to be a series)
-the death camps were humans were barcode for extermination
-the 600 series with rubber skin
-a the moment when John Conner meets Kyle Reese for the first time and gives him his mom's picture. (I felt that the SCC ruined that, it should be a big moment as all the films etc are based on it.)
Holds promise, but like most will probably just be average.
