You're thinking of the time Misa used the intercom at the Miss Macross contest to contact him and then he was directed to pick up a pay phone (or more of a courtesy phone since would have to be wired to the Macross). The other time he went out of his Valkyrie while on patrol to check out some flowers. After that one of his subordinates reminded him to keep his radio when he went out of his Valkyrie. Somehow Shin and Edgar seemed to be more on top of things. Hell, the Asuka II even issued rifles to their Zero pilots. I guess we can forgive Hikaru for his youth. He was only about 18 when he made CAG after all.

when 99% of humanity is wiped out and you're one of the few experienced commanders remaining and ace, you apparently get a lot of leeway.VF5SS wrote:You're thinking of the time Misa used the intercom at the Miss Macross contest to contact him and then he was directed to pick up a pay phone (or more of a courtesy phone since would have to be wired to the Macross). Haven't watched 22 yet, but I'm rapidly running out of steam. The show started off really good and fun, capturing a lot of the feel of the original series, now I'm starting to feel like Kawamori's Macross 7 desire to go totally fucking stupid with it has caught back up with him. I mean, I can see this still having a solid ending, but with what..3 episodes left there's a shit ton of loose ends to wrap up, and unless they're planning on another OVA series or mini-movie, I don't think they can do it. Overall, I'm enjoying the mechanical designs, the animation and the action sequences. I like these occasional little glances into the Macross universe that give us a bit more of a view on how their world is. The cyborg thing was totally out of left field, since I can't think of a single other example of cybernetics previously in Macross, unless you're going to count Sharon Apple's technology as a springboard, but I don't really see much of a connection between AI and the kind of stuff that blondie has.

Should have specified that I was looking at it in terms of application on normal humans, not Zentraedi, and it was a pretty big jump from Breetai's faceplate to what's her face the manager that apparently keeps spare bodies, has those fucked up tentacle things, and blondie.Vendetta wrote:
Nope, no cybernetics ever in Macross. Not even a technology base to work from at all...
Remember that Zentradi are biologically human, even if the commander types are significantly enhanced at full size, so most of the fiddly and difficult interconnects would be compatible, it's just a case of miniaturisation, and it has been fifty years since first contact to improve on that technology.

Macross' rate of technological advancement is extremely fast; the moment that humans get their hands on something alien, you can bet that they'll do something with it. The way that the engineering department on the SDF Macross adapted the missing fold drive into the pin-point barrier system is highly impressive, for example. They captured a Zentraedi factory moon, which more or less pumps out every piece of technology the Zentraedi needed, and so it's not a stretch to imagine that human scientists started ripping up as much Overtech as possible - that's what the Macross Consortium is, after all.
I mean, they gave the YF-19 and YF-21 DAEDELUS PUNCHES ten years before hand. I'd say that'd be the pinacle of Macross technology.

It's pretty much based on (With additional touches of a VF-22) and improved upon the Varauta Fz-109 Elgerzorene, which is really adapted from the Terran F-14 Vampire..
You can blame it on the Protoculture.

Giant robot shows generally open the Pandora's box when it comes to technology. Even Gundam has finally opened itself up to cyborgs. Of course when Macross introduces AI planes, Hal 9000 tentacle boxes (Sharon Apple), bio-mechanical flagship commanders (Boldolza), automated vending machines, advanced AI for giant robots, brain control systems, tentacled superbrain advisers (Exedol), and a galaxy spanning network of information cyborgs are not right out. Certainly not as bad as cel phones.

Mind you, the most inexplicable technology in Macross is the hologram tech, especially as it appears in Macross Plus. While it's possible that everyone was just being hypnotised in the last part, and so Sharon was not actually projecting a hologram into the YF-19 and there wasn't a giant face superimposed over the Macross, instances at the concert were just mindboggling (it's similar with Sheryl's concert in episode one as well).

You mean like the Xen style floating outcrops that she was standing on? Yeah. But mechanically speaking, if you can make an aircraft that can change its entire geometry at high speed and not tear itself apart, you can pretty much do anything. Cyborg tech? That's just intergrating a brain properly into a machine, and General Galaxy was doing that in the late 2030's.
lol, opsec doesn't apply to fanfiction. -Aaron

The YF-19 must have some kind of holographic system for the canopy as it functions as a HUD like on most Valkyries and also doubles as the rear monitor in Battroid mode. The same is also true of the VF-25.

New pictures of the VF-171EX and Battle Frontier. Alto's VF-171EX is very sexy.

He's really gone off the fucking deep end, hasn't he. I know Leon is trying his damndest to paint the girl as a traitor, but at worst she's an impulsive sixteen year old who made a bad decision.
and about the game, is it going to have some decent missions, or just more cookie-cutter crap missions so they can fit in as much unlockable content as possible like the gundam games?

I must have this. If only importing wasn't so ungodly expensive.Vendetta wrote:Also, New Ace Frontier trailer. Want. Now.

I'm sorry, but the fact that Bandai is making it gives me little hope with regards to the game's quality. I've played several of the bandai-developed Gundam games, and while they were somewhat entertaining, the controls were overly clunky, and the missions were too short.General Zod wrote:Vendetta wrote: I must have this. I want to play a Macross space sim with missions that are as well developed as those in the x-wing games, or freespace. Not some game where every mission basically breaks down into "enemies charge for a while, you bash them, you win."

Then you probably aren't looking for a PSP game either.Darksider wrote:General Zod wrote:I'm sorry, but the fact that Bandai is making it gives me little hope with regards to the game's quality. Macross is not about fiddly power management nonsense or protectng/destroying cardboard freighters, it is about blowing shit up with lots and lots of missiles.Darksider wrote: I want to play a Macross space sim with missions that are as well developed as those in the x-wing games, or freespace. If you really want a space sim there's always Macross VO. That even features Newtonian physics. Plus the space battles can involve a huge number of fighters and cap ships. There's even a really terrible melee attack.
