While Death's particular idea is not appetising, I wouldn't have minded something other than a big red dude who looks a bit like Diablo. I can't really expect Pan's Labyrinth creativity or anything, but it was a mild disappointment.
What is Project Zohar?

Oh come on, it's Doctor Who. We were either going to get THE ACTUAL AND FOR SERIOUS DEVIL MAN or some old guy in a chair like in Pyramids of Mars.

And you can keep OMG SCARY GIRL the fuck away from me, please. This is not the 90s. We are not in Japan.

If I was writing it, I would've been tempted to go for an utterly alien yet marginally infernal monolith, the idea being it would be a "rogue" equivalent of those in 2001. It could have a chaotic/alien/malevolent AI and make the Doctor scratch his head. I wasn't a fan of the daemon-beast, it was too kitsch and obvious.

Hey. Hey. Hey. Sutehk was awesome and I'll have nothing else said about it.

Honestly, while I kind of like Zuul's monolith idea, to a point, I think it would have been fairly underwhelming. I don't know, couldn't they have set him on fire or made him out of lasers or something?

You think they'd have gone with something a bit more universal than Diablo, but since it was just a great big CGI animal I'm not fussed.

Something unknowable clearly from 'before' the universe would have been neat, but frankly so much about the beast was silly already that I'm not sure it would have improved it that much. :)

Toby with Tattoos was better. GOD OF KNOWLEDGE lol :)

Yeah, something like that (maybe not an AI, just something crazy and extra-universal) heck, having there be just a big empty tomb-y thing with maybe like, some *empty* shackles or something would probably have worked better.

Listen I think expecting DW to have an exploration of the concept of 'imprisoning' an 'idea' is a bit much; they didn't even address that even locked up, he's still got all this power going on and has had a huge influence ANYWAY - the closest they get to 'you can't kill an idea' is the schoolmarm's mythography, which nobody remembers when they drop poor Toby in the hole. :)

When I was referring to an infernal monolith, I envisaged something like Leviathan.
