Not to mention that the eye socket area is a total shot-trap and naturally weaker due to the design of the terminator's skull/eye (why carry over a natural weakness like that from humans?).
It looks like the terminator eye design was optimized for rapid repair and versatility. Pop out the old eye and pop in a new one or one designed for different missions. Really the whole design of the terminators seems pretty modular to me.

They needed someone to watch the kids because some guy just quit and replacement wasn't due for 2 weeks. So they offered Derek the job when he signed John up, because apparently his forged bio was pretty impressive.
