Ok, another Wing Commander topic. Vesuvius vs Midway &

Post by Alyeska »

So, a Vesuvius fully loaded with the WC4 era Confed fighters and equipment is up against a fully loaded Midway with Prophecy era fighters. Both start outside of range of eachother with enough time to launch their fighter screens. WC4 era fighters have all of their established capabilities as listed, Prophecy era fighters have the same. To throw things around a little, the Vesuvius has 12 Dragons onboard as well. Also... The Midway's main gun is removed from the debate because it is more likely to kill the Midway then destroy the Vesuvius. Escorting the Midway are two Plunkett cruisers with 15 Tigersharks appeace.

So, can the Midway with being outnumbered 1.4-1 but with newer fighters and artillery cruisers take down the Vesuvius? Or will the Vesuvius's superior numbers and large AMG batteries win the day?

Does the Versuvius have any of those funky disks that super-heat the target ship from the inside out?

Flashpacks, no.

Thanks, I couldn't remember what they were called. Its been a while shice I played WC4.

In any case, w/o any one-shot-kill weapons, whichever one that I launch from wins. :D

Ok so does the Vesivus have any Dragons(the only thing I see tipping the scales)?

If so they they stand a good chace(the Dragons are truly a wanking dream...cloaked fighter/bombers, evil loadout as well)...and if so how many?

Also does the WC4 craft have usual missle loadout or can they utilize some of the more unique weapons(not the Flashpack...but WC4 offered some chaff missle as well as a toned down MACE)?

Yes, 12 of them.

Ah okay they have a small squadron of Dragons...hmm 12 is going to cause some serious damage.

Still do they customized missle load outs or just regular?

Actually with the Dragons I'm almost inclined to give it Vesy...more because they alone can kill the Midway or cripple it extensively.

The WC4 fighters have all the capabilities as shown in WC4. That means higher ROF on their main guns, longer sustained fire bursts, and MASSIVE missile salvos.

Well the reason I ask for Custom vs regular loadout is because with Custom the combined makes for almost an insanely nastier scenario(Since the could concievably missle that act literally as a missle screen[the scattershots, plus MACEs]) still I give the WC4 era craft with the Dragons will take some losses...but will pull through because honestly the Dragons do tip heavily(yeah only twelve...but the way they are meant to be used...it outlandishly nasty...truly an all in wonder)

My reasoning for the Dragon almost win it for them since Fission Cannons can be charged while cloak and can nearly kill any fighter craft and rip through shield on a battleship.

Yes you can use the custom missile loadout on the WC4 fighters.

Honestly, I'd say the Versuvius takes this one. WC5 cap ships have the exposed shield generator brain bug. The Versuvius was hard as hell to take out w/o the flashpack. I could take out countless WC5 Tiamats if I needed to (and had unlimited torps).
The turrets in WC5 are much easier to hit. Missile turrets was a good idea in concept but poorly executed in the game.

JEEBUS....okay the Vesivus wins in near outlandish battle, that make one wonder how insane is the Midway.

I mean on WC4 side you have the special weapons and now the custom loadouts?

Oi...Maces mixed with leechs...and leech guns with Stormfires....

Not a pretty picture.

One other thing. The Midway had that ridiculously slow launching system. Did anyone else absolutely hate that or was it just me?

This doesn't factor. There is enough time for both sides to get all their fighters up.

Well, there are the two Plunkett cruisers supporting the Midway.

Even then...seriously the Dragon are meant as virtual carrier killer(or that's what I always got from the Fission cannon...cloak, charge, fire...cloak, wash rinse repeat.)

That and the custom loadouts make for some nasty effects...Leech missle in particular since they literally strip a shield, plus some of the ship have Leech cannons just to make it worse.

Honestly the extra cruisers are nice but the load out plus Dragons make for an extraordinary opponent I don't see Midway and comapny winning against while trying to fend of the Vesy ships.

OK, but the Midway's launching system still sucks.

With the Dragons... Vesuvius wins. Think Excalibur, Mk II, but it can deploy flashpacks (which I know the Vesuvius doesn't have, but I'm just saying they could) its guns are about as powerful as the Excalibur's but consume less power (Dragon's 2 tachyon + 2 plasma vs. Excalibur's 2 Tachyon + 4 Reaper) And then there's our friend Mr. Fission.

All the Dragon's need to do is to form up behind the Midway, charge FIssion and simultaneously unleash into the launching bay or into the engines. Either way, Midway goes down hard.

Not to mention its INSANE turning ability - the fucker pulled a 180 in around 5 seconds (Watch the cutscene - as the BWS Intrepid closed in on it, the scene changed to TOlwyn on the Vesuvius ordering a 180 and the ship turned fast enough to shock the Intrepid's bridge crew, including Blair)

FYI the Midway's SWACs will detect WC4 cloaks and can vector the Midways CAP Wasps to take them out. However in the big fighter engagement away from the Midway the SWACs while being able to detect the cloaked fighters can't offer enough support to allow the Midway fighters to engage.
