The plot of this novel is stupid. Why would Count Fenring want to kill Paul, when he decided to not do it at the end of the original novel despite the fact that a) he could, and b) his Emperor and best friend had ordered him to.

Fenring's powers lie in hiding, he is utterly unreadable, that is why he can beat Paul, but he who hides cannot be the one who is many places at once. That requires the power to see, like Paul's.
