I'm not a big fan of Pegasus' death, the initial rolling in looking badass with all the guns blazing looks badass enough but the ramming is kinda eh, it sort of slows down really badly upon impact and then the bag end explodes spectacularly for no apparent reason.

The explosion of the ship itself seemed a little WTF-ish. Reactor deliberately overloaded before abandoning ship? Who knows. I thought it was a good middle-finger moment though.Crazedwraith wrote:I'm not a big fan of Pegasus' death, the initial rolling in looking badass with all the guns blazing looks badass enough but the ramming is kinda eh, it sort of slows down really badly upon impact and then the bag end explodes spectacularly for no apparent reason.

Any city gets what it admires, will pay for, and, ultimately, deserves…We want and deserve tin-can architecture in a tinhorn culture. And we will probably be judged not by the monuments we build but by those we have destroyed.--Ada Louise Huxtable, "Farewell to Penn Station", New York Times editorial, 30 October 1963

The best middle finger of that entire part was the flight pod smashing into a Basestar.Captain Kruger wrote:The explosion of the ship itself seemed a little WTF-ish. On a general note, for whatever reason, whenever Galactica or Pegasus jump away like in "33" or "The Captain's Hand" (or after Pegasus' ramming in this) and there's a beat where they linger on the remaining Cylons, I've equated the sounds of the Raiders flying about with "What the FUCK just happened?"

Indeed! That's the only time I can think of where a warship went boom but wasn't done fucking the enemy's day yet.Skylon wrote:The best middle finger of that entire part was the flight pod smashing into a Basestar.

Out of all the space scenes, my favorite is the nuking of the space yards with all the battlestars.
I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.

The Miniseries/Season 1 had some great ones.
1) Captain Kelly collecting the dogtags of the 85 dead in the miniseries while the Battlestar Galactica winds its way through the storm of Ragnar Anchorage.
That really brought the show home for me.
2) The Destruction of the passenger liner Olympic Carrier in 33. They didn't know for sure. They never knew for sure.
3) Flattop's thousandth landing celebration, and Starbuck taking on all eight. (Act of Contrition)
Galactica and Pegasus, the last 2 Battlestars, fully functional and angry, tearing through the two baseships while the Vipers and Raptors plaster the Resurrection Ship.
anyone got any other good S1/S2 moments?

Battle of New Caprica: Not the Adama maneuver, but when they're in orbit and you've just got that scene of them taking on the Basestars, Adama asking for FTL and Helo just giving that shake of his head. The music of it was perfect, and you've just got that long pull out where you see Galactica just being pounded before Pegasus comes in and the music changes as they take the Basestars off Galactica.
Tigh: Pretty much the first few episodes of Season 3, nearly every word he says is pure gold.
From the miniseries you've got when the FTL ships are jumping away, leaving the ships without to scream down the radio asking where they're going so they can try and catch up and just being left behind.
Roslin being sworn in, as well as their first jump away from Ragnar Anchorage where Galactica goes out first to take a pounding to cover the fleets escape.

There are other vituoso moments. The end of 'Kobol's Last Gleaming part 2', both the scene where Head Six shows Balter the Opera House and "the shape of things to come", and the scene with Boomer in the basestar when she is accosted by those other Eights and finally when she shoots Adama. It still has jaw dropping power even when you know it's coming. Hell, just mark it as the second half of 'Kobol's Last Gleaming'.
Also, the scene on the hanger deck in 'Exodus part 2' when the refugee's return. It has such power to it because the juxtaposition of the cheering refugees and the heartbreak of Tigh and Starbuck just sums up the hell of New Caprica. It does full justice to the experience of the previous episodes... in fact, I'm not sure if the previous episodes fully do justice to that scene.

This was the scene that I thought of when I saw the thread title. Never before has a single scene so perfectly described a character.Bilbo wrote:What is your single favorite scene?
For me it has to be Baltar on the Baseship when they were attacking the Resurrection Hub. He is telling the Centurion about God and even though the Cylon cannot say anything the varous head movements really make you feel like you are watching an actual conversation, as if what Baltar is saying is sinking in. Actually since we can assume the Centurion is one that has its brain inhibitor removed I assume the Centurion really did understand Baltar. I would love to know what the Centurion was thinking.
