Havok wrote:I think I said this in another thread when TSCC got moved to Friday night... Why would a television network that has spent millions of dollars promoting and developing and making a show that is designed to appeal to the 15-35 demographic, move it to a night and time when 15-35 year olds are looking to do anything but stay home and watch TV? I don't get the logic there.
Three ideas:

A - The Evil Fox Network Executives deliberately moved it to Friday night so as to have a reason to screw it over. This is not unprecedented. *cough* Firefly *cough*

B - The show had been getting weak ratings before the move. They didn't want to cancel it just yet, but they didn't want to waste a valuable timeslot on a weak performer. There are more shows than slots, after all. So, it was moved to a weak slot as a "last chance" that just didn't work out.

C - They honestly thought sci-fi nerds don't go out on Fridays? :P Or possibly they thought it worked for nBSG and X-Files, so....
Also, instant gratification, the bane of the capitalist mentality. Anything that doesn't pay off inmediately is shunned and discarded.
The stupid capitalist mentality, maybe. Long-term investments can pay off, but if you're fighting for your life in a viciously competitive TV market, they're kind of hard to do.

Seriously. It got a second season on weak ratings. A full second season. That failed to pay off in any sort of subsequently higher ratings.

How many second chances does it deserve?

Fuck you, Fox.

What else is there to say, besides from, I will be boycotting Fox from now on. Which should be pretty easy as they show nothing of interest.

This outcome was written on the Connor wall from the beginning as far as I am concerned and I would find it more likely the execs see the new movie as a reason to cancel it NOW rather than hang on. Otherwise it is going to be a series budget show trying to compete against the high budget movie with Bale etc. I do not see people watching the movies coming over to a series and being satisfied to see nothing of the movie is actually relevent. Nevermind the convoluted nature of TSCC is unlikely to attract a good portion of a movie crowd watching an action movie.

What? I've not seen any of the Firefly actors on the cast lists for Stargate Universe, if that's what you mean.

I presume it is a reference to SG's tendancy to pick up actors from other shows. We have had 2 from Farscape in SG-1, 1 from Enterprise and 2 from Firefly. Although this tendancy is a trend amoungst most shows but since SG:U is the only major Sci Fi series on the horizon it would make sense for them to be roping in a few known Sci Fi faces to draw in fans from other series. Summer Glau would certainly make a prime target to be picked up but it will probably be as an episode alien or a minor character which I would find a bit of a waste personnally.

Jewel Staite played a minor part in SG:A before landing the Keller role, but still, due to the current state of the SG franchise, even a major role would probably be a waste of Summer Glau's talent.
No, I didn't like Morena Baccarin or Jewel Staite's roles in SG, although, admitedly, I didn't like Morena Baccarin's role in Firefly either.

3 From Firefly. Adam Baldwin guest stared in SG-1's Heroes. 2 From Enterprise as well. John Billingsly (Phlox) was one of "The Other Guys" in Season 6.

Still SGU is already cast and part way through filming. So Glau isn't going to get more than a minor role.

This show getting canceled will displease my wife. I lost interest in the show when there was too much high school emo drama with John.

Although I will toss a FUCK YOU FOX because they do tend to cancel good shows while continue to air the most dreadful shit such as American Idol.

There's always the possibility that Summer Glau wanders in during Season 2 and replaces "that guy nobody liked" ala Ronon Dex.

ABC once considered canceling LOST. Then they saw that the DVD sales were very good. The TV ratings weren't so good, but the after airing market was incredible.

TSCC had good ratings if you bothered to look outside of the idiotic Nielsen ratings. The Hulu ratings were very good. Bet you season 2 will sell very well on DVD. Fuckers killed the show without a shred of giving it a chance.

^Network policies. They had T:SCC, a show that was produced outside by WB. Then they had Dollhouse, a show that was produced inhouse, costing them less and also spent far less time on special effects. Both have the same ratings (well, Dollhouse had slightly worse ratings) but one costs less to produce.

Thus: T:SCC is a goner.

Shark (a legal show with James Woods) had over ten million viewers, which was fucking great considering it was on Sunday evenings and was bumped by faux football, and CBS still shitcanned the show supposedly because of "wrong" demographs (even if the idiotic Nielsen system never took students into account until recently). And zounds, broadcast network television is losing ground all the time.

Summer Glau, who plays Cameron, also played River on Firefly. Hence, Robot River.

Before Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Summer Glau's breakthrough role was in the short-lived sci-fi series Firefly where she played an adorable brain-washed experimented-on genius waif called River Tam who could kill you with her mind and mathematics.

In T:SCC she is a robot, and in Firefly she was a River. Hence ROBOT RIVER! ^__________^

I didnt really like TSCC that much but it is rather disappointing for it to be cancelled without a resolution to the end. An ending like Angel or Farscape would have been ideal for the series however, with no new season and no chance of series movies in the wake of Terminator Salvation it is left unresolved.
Kinda feel sorry for Summer Glau, this is the second series that has tanked with her in it which is a bit of a shame really. That said, if Dollhouse is getting another season then I can see Joss snaping her up in the way that his series often do with characters from previous shows.

Actually, AFAIK she and Joss Whedon are making a ballet movie.

As I love Ballet, this should be great. I only hope they do not edit the ballet in order to make it more flashier/faster...which always ends up butchering the routines.

Yeah, like Alan Tudyk, who now has the 'recurring villain' spot on Dollhouse.

Anyways, at least T:SCC got two seasons, which is better than Firefly which wasn't even fully aired, so things are improving for Glau ;)

Reportedly, Joss has said that he's been talking with her about getting her on Dollhouse, at least in a guest role, even before SCC was cancelled. He did say that while she'd be a good actress for an Active, he was wanting to give her a different role.

Please, no more vacant-eyed-weird-girl roles for Miss Glau, she's typecasted enough as it is, she really needs a chance to prove her acting abilities.

It IS possible to love the show without loving Cameron, Shroom. She's an interesting character, but it's really the overall writing and tone that kept me coming back.

And Riley. Because someone has to wuv her... :(

You could try irritating. Distracting. Irrelevant. Boring.

Actually, don't. Shroomy-speech is more amusing and still conveys your meaning well. :)

Anyway, I get why a lot of people didn't like her. I'm just not feeling it, that's all.

I personally thought of her as a quirky girl who was giving John some much-needed normalcy. His stupidity around her was amusing and touching. THEN we find out that she was working for Jesse, thus REALLY making her character boring, because it gives an uninteresting answer to why she talked to him in the first place and overlooked a lot of weirdness. It wasn't because of a strange personality, no - she's just from the future. BORING. Although this may be a result of my REALLY not liking Jesse.

Although, honestly, the twist put a new light on a scene in "Brothers Of Nablus", where she confronts Cromartie while visiting John.

Consider: She HAD to know what a large man acting oddly and asking questions about Cameron meant. And yet she not only manages to act completely clueless, she ARGUED with him and yelled at him until he left.

That takes the female version of gigantic brass cojones.
