Saw this along with Terminator Salvation, It seems like an interesting premise (even with the technical faults of the ideas, including diving into the Matrix area of kill the avatar kill the person (although they do say that this is something which should not happen)).

I don't see how that's really a fault when the fact it shouldn't happen is the entire basis of the plot.(even with the technical faults of the ideas, including diving into the Matrix area of kill the avatar kill the person (although they do say that this is something which should not happen)).
I am definitely going to see this when it comes out, it seems it's been a while since the last sci fi movie that's sci fi in a 'literary' sense (as in, a story about the effects of science and technology, rather than the science&technology being a backdrop). And the idea of choosing to live your life through a technological avatar certainly has some paralells and is an interesting topic, though obviously the movie might put that thought into the form of a clumsy message of some sort. A risk I don't mind taking.
And as a sidenote I hope the police and military surrogates have some kind of extra hardware not available to the civilian ones; increased strength, onboard weapons or something. Just a detail, clearly, and not a dealbreaker, but something I'd like to see noted.

Re: Surrogates Trailer
As I recall, in the original, disabling the surrie doesn't so much as affect the operator (well, only financially) and that was very much the idea of the bad guy. The police models weren't any different than the civilian models it seemed, the only vaguely superhuman thing was that the bad guy was immune to the sonic darts (which force the operators to disconnect) and managed to ignore his arm getting sliced off, both of which are rationalised in the end. As far as I recall they're pretty much human standard.
