Live Action Yamato\Starblazers Film

Post by Johonebesus »

Evidently there is a live action adaptation due at the end of the year. The actors looked weird somehow, but the bit with the wave motion gun engaging really took me back. I just wonder how terrible it will be. The fact that Hollywood isn't involved to screw it up mist be a good sign.

Missile Spam ahoy! I'm looking forward to it, but I am of the opinion that Anime is rediculously hard to do live action because there seem to be more tools for exposition taht are acceptable in anime. For example, if this starts with a long winded voiceover medly, it will drag the film.

Good news, it looks like it might be a nice ride ala Speed Racer.
Bad News:It might be as intelligent as Speed Racer and be to in love with it's own visuals.

Also seeing crazy anime hair in anime works fine for me. However now that I know the good spaceship Yamato and I see the poofy haired lead the Navy man in me wants to yell at him to get his hair cut to within regulations.

Looks pretty nice (the conversion of the uniforms looks pretty good, more spaceship captains need Hats in Sci-Fi). While i am not complaining, i find it odd that they decided to translate the name into English.

The director, Takashi Yamazaki, is also responsible for the rather excellent Returner movie. That movie was and still is a pretty much perfect blend of anime aesthetics and live action movie making, so I'm hopeful.

Personally, I hope it's terrible, but that's because I have no taste and love bad Japanese action movies.

It's just counting down to the start. 330 days, 12 hours 30-odd minutes to go!

This better be the international release date... well, 330 days to go.

imdb.com lists it as in development - no release date yet.

The way I look at it, no matter what it is, I will enjoy any given action movie/show from Japan. If it's good, it's probably over-the-top awesome fun. If it's bad, it's probably falls right in that hilarious so bad it's good range such that I will enjoy it more. In the event that the level of misogyny is intensive enough to make it unwatchable, I get a few friends together and we play Mystery Science Theater 3000 with it, while my friends take a drink every time a woman is treated poorly (which can get dangerous enough to declare an extreme sport) . I'm sure Japan produces their share of mediocre, boring crap, but I've yet to see it.

Just something i found online, it looks pretty damn awesome even if the Yamato is probably not scaled right. If this is what we can expect from the live action movie, definately something to look out for.

Sorry. I had my doubts if it was legit, still fairly impressive though.
