StarGate Universe 1.0 DVD announced

Post by Tychu »

I was searching the wikipedia list of episodes and I found mention of the DVD being released on February 9, 2010 (Region 1). I also see it is available for pre-ordering on cduniverse.com .

Only 10 episodes of the announced 20 will be on the DVD and I am weary to buy this next month because I fondly recall the Atlantis pilot being released on DVD a good 6 months before the season 1 DVD which it was included in.

If anybody else has any further information about this it would be greatly appreciated.

I refuse to purchase half-season DVDs unless they bring them out for half price. Any news on pricing?
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

It looks like the DVD is going to have a full season price tag. Tried to post a link but I haven't done it in quite a while and forgot how to name the link.

If you go to cduniverse.com They are charging $36.99 (sale) and will most likely be $50 everywhere else

36 US Dollars yeah? Still probably cheaper than buying it in Aus, even after factoring in shipping. 36 AUD is what they cost when they're 18 months old and unpopular.

I'm not to sure how the major retailers do it in Australia but (for DVD's at least) Best Buy usually cuts $10-$15 off the price the first week the DVD season is on sale. For those who wait they pay the full price of $40-$50 which the previous StarGate series sold for when they first released to DVD. I still think $35 is too much for only 10 episodes.

All of those prices are in USD. Sorry for not making that clear before.

Why does SyFy (urgh) have this idiotic thing about splitting everything in half? Is there some reason for it beyond making more money by selling half-season dvds? I mean, I love money-grubbing as much as the next guy, but couldn't they at least inject some class into it?

No idea why SyFy likes to do that. To me there was nothing going on in the first 10 episodes to make it worth owning. The back half needs to do a lot of saving for me to ever consider purchasing them.

SG:U only starts to get good towards end of this half season with episodes like "Time". The best episodes to come will be in the second half. Considering this spending that much money for the dry paced first half is a waste.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Why they split up the show in the first place might have to do with being able to show new material while other channels are showing reruns. Why they split up the DVDs, aside from the fact that the season is split up? I dunno. Because they think they can make more money that way.
