Um, actually I wasn't commenting on the black queen part, but rather REvy's complaint about BBC decided to make Guinevere and Friar Tuck black. THAt was what i responded to, the idea of a black queen of Britain is to me pretty much "so what? She's still the Queen"
Baltar: "I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!"
Centurion: "Sir, I really think you should look at the other Battlestar."
Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."

I would be interested to learn how they cast to the role of Liz 10. Did they, in fact, cast a black woman for the 'shock value' and to attempt to make a statement? Or did they just issue a cast call that didn't refer to race at all and just to the character's character and Sophie Okonedo was the best actor that showed up for the gig?

I would imagine based on the dialogue they envisioned a sort of street smart queen, she busted out the double guns and some pithy retorts which would have been written before casting. maybe Sophia brought just the right sort of 'tude.

I doubt it was for shock value. I for one was too busy groaning at 'Queen in the future' to notice the colour of her skin until people started moaning about it here.
