In Daniel's hallucination, he builds an Orbital Defense Network of Particle Beam Satellites. IIRC three of these were able to reduce the Moscow metropolitan area to lava. Could this system have destroyed Anubis' Flagship?

The system was built in a dream purely to show that having "Power corrupts" as Danial went quite mad after building themJeremy wrote:In Daniel's hallucination, he builds an Orbital Defense Network of Particle Beam Satellites. For all we know they worked on bubblegum and quantum foam, so there is no way of knowing if they could be built.
IF they could somehow be built.. and NOT at the expense of a Power Crazed Human who would use them to rule the world... You would STILL run into the problem that they did in the episode, manly of the other Earth governments wanting to know what the Hell you are doing putting satellites of DOOM overhead without them knowing about it.
Weather they could hurt Anubis ships is a little besides the point.
Praying is another way of doing nothing helpful

The episode amly demonstrates that that's not a problem.Crossroads Inc. wrote:You would STILL run into the problem that they did in the episode, manly of the other Earth governments wanting to know what the Hell you are doing putting satellites of DOOM overhead without them knowing about it.

Re: Stargate Alt
Even if the information was entirely factual based on the knowledge the Harsesis had access to from being a son of Ra and Amonet, the genetic knowledge would come from two Goa'uld who had not utilized technology at the level of Anubis' ship and most likely did not have it. More over, the satellites were designed by an archaeologist. Even with access to advanced knowledge this doesn't guarantee that they would work as intended against a space ship.
Maybe Khalek could have done it as he was a supersoldier super intelligent descendant of Anubis but I believe he is trapped in an iceberg awaiting release so that he can fight crime in another era.[/s] dead.

Have we seen any Hataks demonstrate an ability similar to the hallucinated particle beams?

No they weren't.More over, the satellites were designed by an archaeologist. Even with access to advanced knowledge this doesn't guarantee that they would work as intended against a space ship.
That is, they were constructed by an archeologist who then learned a shitload of physics, engineering and whatnot (by magic/technobabble, but still).
That's like saying that someone who once studied philosophy and later physics will now use philosophical principles to solve a physics problem.

Err, no. They're said in the show to be able to do pretty much anything, including nuclear missile interception. You don't have to blow up cities. Even General Vidrine plans to just smack the Russians' wrists and show them that they're not even a fifth rate power any more and that the US now has an invincibility weapon.Crazedwraith wrote:Umm... only if you're prepared to obliterate Moscow.

The goa'uld genetic memory Daniel was given contains the knowledge of every parent in the line of Apophis. That presumably contains any number of scientists and engineers, given how science-heavy the goa'uld actually are.Themightytom wrote:More over, the satellites were designed by an archaeologist. Re: Stargate Alt
People tend to paint the Goa'uld as technological scavengers who don't have a drop of creativity in them. This belittles the fact that they have a vast scientific understanding of thier technology and access to hyper-advanced construction techniques which make a modern mass-production line posiively trivial and primative.
Being called technological scavengers means almost nothing in Stargate, because it is setting where a Very Ancient and Very Powerful Race which seeded the galaxy with life fell, and everyone is living in the ruins of thier civilization. Often without even knowing it.

We repeatedly see the very top levels of their society (Ba'al, Nirrti, Anubis, Apophis and others) regularly engaged productively in bona-fide research. When was the last time you saw Obama or Gordon Brown doing science? If anything, the goa'uld are more scientific than humans.

Which is hardly surprising, given their lifespan - they have enough time to acquire the necessary knowledgeNecronLord wrote:We repeatedly see the very top levels of their society (Ba'al, Nirrti, Anubis, Apophis and others) regularly engaged productively in bona-fide research. And since knowledge is power and Goa'ulds value personal power highly, it is only logical that many will try to acquire it.
Since the scientific method is the best way to do so, them being scientific is the logical next step.
While our society might have a higher percentage of scientists than the Goa'uld society (if you include their servants), our leaders are not required or encouraged to have scientific knowledge on their own.

Exceedingly unlikely that we've more scientists as a percentage, if you only count actual parasites, though. The goa'uld are of course, by nature, polymaths. Look at their cousins, the Tok'ra. See all the stuff Selmak can do? Fly warships, cargo ships, translate long lost languages, understand advanced science, brainstorm blowing up stars...Serafina wrote:While our society might have a higher percentage of scientists than the Goa'uld society (if you include their servants), our leaders are not required or encouraged to have scientific knowledge on their own.
The goa'uld are warped by their power games, in comparison, but are still quite phenomenal.

Yes, of course - but that is a bit unfair since the Goa'uld society is essentially a multi-species society - after all they heavily rely on their slave races.Exceedingly unlikely that we've more scientists as a percentage, if you only count actual parasites, though.
It would be like taking the 40K-Tau (just as an example) and stating that they consist 100% or Warriors since you just choose to ignore non-Fire Caste Tau.

Re: Stargate Alt
Knowledge without talent doesn't guarantee successful application. Daniel is human, meaning left Middle Right brain theory is applciable, as well as Gardner's multiple Intelligences. Daniel has never demonstrated any strengths in mathematics for example so while he might "have" memories of mathematical proofs he wouldn't have the affinity for using them in a situation other than what is remembered... and it is unlikely any of his Goa'uld forebears ever built a satelite out of Earth parts with Earth components.NecronLord wrote:The goa'uld genetic memory Daniel was given contains the knowledge of every parent in the line of Apophis. Daniel's strengths are linguistic, and interpersonal as evidenced by his mastery of multiple languages and affinity for communication.
He also presents right, or right middle brain characteristics. His ability to understand concepts and abstractions, to communicate to empathize and to emote aren't typical of someone with an affinity for engineering.

It's pretty clear he understands how the tech works in the vision. Even if he didn't quite know how to make it work with Earth Tech, he'd have memories of all the other Goa'uld tech necessary to build it. He'd have to cooperate with a bunch of engineers, obviously.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

I supposed he DID have Major Carter to help him work shit out, though he shut her out toward the end, he wouldn't necessarily need to direct the construction, just provide the background information neccesary for engineers to do so.adam_grif wrote:It's pretty clear he understands how the tech works in the vision. In the fantasy Daniel became the U.S. government's golden boy and got whatever he demanded, including a mansion complete with underground evil lair.
Considering this it's pretty much a given that he'd have the best physicists, engineers and what have you in the country at his disposal.
