The Earth Alliance had just completed their territorial growth and had produced some solid designs like the Hyperion and the Nova in anticipation of war with the Narn. The Narn Regime had also rapidly expanded their territory, pushing the Centauri back and abutting the LONAW and nearing the Humans. The Centauri had been on a general decline, characterized by the consumption of their former empire by the Narn. The LONAW was uncoordinated and riven with internal dispute. The Centauri couldn't afford to risk a Dilgar alliance with the Narn and the Narn couldn't risk a war with the Dilgar reinvigorating the Centauri or inviting the Drazi. Once Earth Force started to roll up the Dilgar the LONAW united and avalanched all the way back to the Dilgar homeworld, especially when the Drazi gained momentum. From the map provided with B5Wars there was no way the Dilgar could have carried a war into the depth of the EA without the complicity or the final conquest of the LONAW. I don't have my books with me in this city so if anyone can confirm my memory, I'd appreciate it.
In the 2250s the Narn fielded the G'Quan Heavy Cruiser which proved adept at long range gunnery, and were replacing their rebel glory fleet of T'Loth Assault Cruisers. If not for the Shadows' assistance they would be in ascendancy still. The Centauri of 2260 were experiencing a revival by the Houses (led by Refa) and nationalism, invigorated by Mollari's actions against the Narn and the change of Emperors. The Minbari may have obtained the White Star fleet but were in a precarious state in 2260 and delved into civil war recall. The LONAW was back into internal strife, apparently fueled by Shadow manipulations. I wouldn't discount the Brakiri or Drazi forces either. The Omega was being developed in the Earth-Minbari War. If Luis Santiago left Earth Force with a strong military it was rotted by the abuses and conspiracies of Luis Clark and the Psi-Corps.
I'll second that.More credible verification is needed, from like the lurker's guide. It was a direct quote from JMS saying that if the EA warships could lock onto to the Minbari ships they would have won the war due to the fact they were more flexible and the could vastly out produce the Minbari. I first saw the quote on SB with the address on it.
To correct something I said earlier, the isolationist species is called the Lumati not the Luminati.
