Futurama Rebirth/In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela Talkback (SPOILERS!)

Post by Davis 51 »

Didn't see a thread about this anywhere else, so I figured I might as well start one here.

For those who don't know, Futurama has finally returned to its weekly episodic format, this time on Comedy Central instead of Fox, beginning yesterday with the first two episodes of the new season.

I'll start off by saying I liked Rebirth much better than In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela. Though the writers may not have entirely gotten used to the idea of half-hour episodes again, they were clearly at their A-game in Rebirth, and though In-A-Gadda was funny, it was much more, dare I say about a primarily comedy show, filler-y? It really feels like the writers are trying to draw the tension out between Leela and Fry much more than necessary. I get that it's the central plot point, but I wanted to scream GET ON WITH IT to the writers.

So in short, "In-A-Gadda" was merely 'good' while "Rebirth" was great, neither of them hitting the stride of perfection they did with episodes like "Roswell that Ends Well" or "The Devils Hands are Idle Playthings", but they managed to make me laugh throughout. It just so happened that Rebirth was the funnier of the two.

Rebirth really had me with it's twist. Leela coming back to live was obvious, but the Fry we see being a robot?
Not so much.
And i loved the ending. It was pretty obvious after the twist, but it was well exectued IMO. As was the robot-Leela thing.

Does anyone know when it's airing in Canada? I can't find anything on it.

As I haven't heard anything about this before now, are they using the original voice actors, or did they get new people like they were threatening to?

Also, I have to say I hope the episodes are better than those movies they produced. Those did nothing for me.

It's the originals. I actually met and hung out with the actor they were threatening to replace Billy West with as Fry. His audition tape was pretty good. If I were Billy West, I would have been scared.

He knew it was never a real audition anyway, just a tape they could pull out during contract negotiations, so he seemed to have fun with it.
