In fact to add upon what Connor notes, the only other Primarch with as much clout was Sanguinus, and he died facing off Horus.

The Ultramarines were considered one of the most noted legions throughout the Crusades and one the best regarded after Horus in the military. While humanity was iffy, the loyal ones weren't immediately viewed as one step away from Chaos so for the newly minted Adminstratum...it was a blessing that the Ultramarines and their Primarch were intact.

It would be simpler to probably just kill the unborn Primarchs in their vats. But you forget Tzeentch, master of the utterly uneccessary convoluted plans. It's likely he orchistrated to whole thing to instigate the Horus Heresy centuries later so they could divide the upstart Imperium and get 9 of the Space Marine legions on their side. Chaos probably would have won it Abaddon would just actually win one of those 13 Black Crusades.

Or maybe they couldn't.

Wow, did you read any of the thread?

"It would just be Unicron with pew pew instead of nom nom". - Vendetta, explaining his justified disinterest in the idea of the movie Allspark affecting the Death Star

I hate to necro my own thread but I just ran across something in the "Thousand Sons" Horus Heresy novel that is relevant to a theory I put out there in this thread. In it, Magnus clearly states (in his own musings not to anyone else) that the Emperor had treated with the powers of Chaos in the distant past. Whose to say he did not treat with them again in light of the Scattering?

BTW I cannot more highly recommend the novel, the Thousands sons were a faction that I could care less about but like any good writer Abnett makes them interesting. By far one of the best in the entire heresy series so far.

Abnett didn't write A Thousand Sons. Graham MacNeill did. Abnett is writing Prospero Burns (Space Wolf perspective of that particular event, naturally. Probably some other stuff they did as well) which isn't out till sometime next year.
