Young Adama has been cast for BSG: Blood and Chrome.
And he's not going to be played by Nico Cortez, unfortunately.
Yeah, I'm not buying it. As far as I'm concerned Cortez was far closer in appearance to present day Adama than this guy (from what we saw of him in the Razor Flashbacks). I've got nothing against this Pasqualino fellow nor am I qualified to speak of his acting ability but this strikes me as a poor choice. I can't shake the feeling that he's just walked off the set of a Twilight sequel. Can anyone honestly picture him maturing into Edward James Olmos?

He doesn't look badass enough. I agree with you on the "walking off a Twilight" set, except I would have been less kind and said High School Musical.
Nico Cortez looked the part. This guy, nope, don't think so.
As a slight aside, I saw "The Green Hornet" yesterday, and it has Edward JAmes Olmos in it as a newspaper editor. I kept expecting him to pull some huge shotgun or somesuch from his desk. I'll never be able to take Olmos seriously in a none-badass role anymore

Considering this is what Edward James Olmos looked like at the age of 37, still a relatively young man, I can't really see it either:Adrian McNair wrote: Can anyone honestly picture him maturing into Edward James Olmos?

Good thing characters aren't their actors, hey?
Is anyone REALLY surprised they cast a fashionable young man for a show aimed at young people?

What a fucking ripoff. Yeah, don't use the guy who they used in the Flashback sequences, he was clearly totally inappropriate

No. But not being surprised does not means that you shouldn't criticize their decision. Ultimately of course his success in that role will depend on his delivery rather than appearance, so he's not necessarily a bad choice, that much is true.Stark wrote: Is anyone REALLY surprised they cast a fashionable young man for a show aimed at young people?

I am willing to see how the character looks in series. Styling, makeup, and costume can do wonders.

A pic that is a little less photoshop:

I dunno. Guess we'll see. If the aim of the prequel is "take a wide-eyed kid and expose him to the hell of war, and watch him morph into the Bill Adama we know" then it could work.

Amazing what photoshop can do!
I'll give him a fair chance. I'm mostly holding out for the action, but I'll judge him on his acting.

Lighting and makeup, too. Half what people think is Photoshopped in model shots is actually just clever makeup and the photographer making the light just right so that possible flaws are not revealed.Juubi Karakuchi wrote:Amazing what photoshop can do!

wasn't Nico Cortez Adama at the end of a 12 year war?
Casting him just doesn't make sense, he's too old.

Ditch the stupid hair cut and give him a more military one and he should do well enough. Make up and effects will cover the rest.
I'd be more concerned about dumb plots ala the Dee, Apollo, Starbuck triangle then the actors appearance in a stock photo.

I watched the actor in Skins. He was a skater type there, kinda blah. I'm kinda hoping he can step it up a notch or I can see this being a trainwreck.

Re: Young Adama has been cast for BSG: Blood and Chrome.
The main sticking point for me in regards to this development is the fact that Cortez was fully willing to reprise the role (as evidenced by this interview). Why not go for the known quantity?
As for the age factor, it wouldn't be the first time an actor has played a much younger character than his or her age. Plus there are techniques for "de-aging" the actor if necessary.
But I may be proven wrong yet. The first teaser footage of Pasqualino in action will be the deciding factor.

Maybe because there is a big difference between some guy you used for a one shot appearance in a flashback and having someone play a part for a potentially ongoing series?Adrian McNair wrote:The main sticking point for me in regards to this development is the fact that Cortez was fully willing to reprise the role (as evidenced by this interview). He may have been "good enough" for that, where he just had to basically do his best Edward James Olmos impression, enough for us to buy him as a younger version of Bill Adama. Its different when one has to carry a part through a series, especially if he's going to be called upon to deliver something different than what EJO brought to the table as Adama.

What is wrong with being a younger version of Bill Adama, exactly, given that's ... exactly who the character is supposed to be?Maybe because there is a big difference between some guy you used for a one shot appearance in a flashback and having someone play a part for a potentially ongoing series?

Given how much people can change between the ages of 20 and 40 with only normal life affecting them, much less a Cylon War, I'd say a lot can go wrong with making a younger version of Bill Adama.Vympel wrote: What is wrong with being a younger version of Bill Adama, exactly, given that's ... exactly who the character is supposed to be?
Re: Young Adama has been cast for BSG: Blood and Chrome.
Nico Cortez was just fine the way he was. He looks a lot more like EJO than this kid does (he was perfect casting - he looked both like Apollo and Bill), and his appearance in the flashback webisodes was hardly just him doing his best EJO impression (though he did that well).Gaidin wrote: Given how much people can change between the ages of 20 and 40 with only normal life affecting them, much less a Cylon War, I'd say a lot can go wrong with making a younger version of Bill Adama.
Oh well, if they make this a full TV show, if they redo the Razor Flashback episode at the end of the series, it could be a good opportunity to retcon one of nBSG's worst background mistakes (i.e. the bullshit revisionism that had Adama only ever fight in the Cylon War on its last day, which made no sense at all given what we knew about the character from all the previous episodes).

I thought Cortez was fine too (though I know a few people who didn't).Vympel wrote:Nico Cortez was just fine the way he was. However, I could see the reason, especially from the producers POV, they would want to see if they had the right guy in Nico Cortez. There is a helluva difference from somebody you've cast for a bit part, and casting the lead in a series. I dunno what the auditions were, the criteria used, etc. I'm not saying I don't think Cortez should have been used. Just that, I understand why the producers may have been interested at looking for someone else.
