Star Trek vs Star Control

Post by Kreshna Aryaguna Nurzaman »

This event takes place on the first Star Control computer game (before Star Control 2). Due to some <technobabble> time-space distortion, suddenly all races of the Alliance of Free Stars disapppear and replaced by Alpha Quadrant races. Assuming that all AQ races join forces against the Hierarchy, which sides gonna' win?

Hiearchy of Battle Thralls:
- Ur-Quan
- Mycon
- Spathi
- Androsynth
- Ilwrath
- VUX
- Umgah

VS

Alpha Quadrant:
- United Federation of Planets
- Klingon Empire
- Romulan Star Empire
- Cardassian Union
- Ferengi

The Ur'Quan exterminate the Alpha Quadrant Races. This is a pretty unfair fight. I would consider the Ur-Quan en par with the Borg.

Ad in the massive battleship they have, and it is a foregone conclusion.

Although I do not knwo much about their propulsion.

Next please

Not to my knowledge, we don't. Also, the physics and damage models of the game are kind of weird, so I don't think that any meaningful power levels could be extrapolated from them.

However, we do have the knowledge that the Ur-Quan are about 20,000 times cooler than any Star Trek race. What do the Vulcans, the Romulans or the Borg have on a bunch of half-mad giant warrior caterpillars? I mean, the way the Ur-Quan rebelled against their Dynarri masters (as related in Star Control 2) still sends shivers up my spine.

We also know that just one of their Dreadnaughts was capable of subjugating an entire civilized world. In addition, the Ur-Quan (even in the arcade style action that marked Star Control) used a combination of fighters and heavy capship missiles to destroy their opponents. This is representative of more tactical and technological sense than the Federation or its opponents have ever shown.

Finally, the conventionally impenetrable shielding technology the Ur-Quan used to enslave planets indicates to me that they are at a very high technological level compared to the Federation, who cannot effectively shield their own planets.

In short, this one goes to the Ur-Quan and their Hierarchy of Battle Thralls by a significant (if not crushing) margin.

all definite points, even if space tactics in Star Control are kind of primitive, with one ship from each side squaring off, and the winner going on to fight the next opponent

I'd just like to say that Star Control 2 ruled!!
And if we're talking about the Ur-Quan, are the Kohr-Ah included? Because then it'd REALLY get nasty.

Whoops, didn't notice it was about Star Control 1.
Well, SC2's more fun anyway. :)

Actually, scaling from a subsite on "The Pages of Now and Forever" have the Ur-Quan Dreadnought at about 400 metres. The VUX Intruder's main gun is a "Gigawatt Laser," putting it around GCS firepower level. The Thraddash Torch's main gun is 4 MW.

If the GCS firepower is about the same as VUX, then the Alpha Quadrant is trashed. Ur-Quan Dreadnought will make a mincemeat out of AQ starships.

but wouldn't an anarmed training ship from most sci-fi make mincemeat out of most AQ ships?

Even the Spathis would pound them by flying around firing missiles while the AQs sat still.
