There's a sci-fi RPG called Cthulutech. One fun concept was called the D-Engine, which (as with the setting) uses some sort of non-euclidean engineering that causes some mass to move in a 4th cartesian plane, generating work while remaining stationary in the 3d. Unlimited power. Except that if you ever look into the casing of the device, you go mad. Naturally.

And naturally the engineers who work on such things tend to go crazy over the years, mandating psychiatric help while working with CAD.

Also, if the D-Engine suffer a containment breach, bad thingsTM happen, in keeping with the Lovecraftian theme of the RPG (ex : incursion of extra-dimensional entities into our plane of existence).

The funny things is : even private cars are equipped with D-Engine, or their derivative technology the D-Batteries.

I recall reading about that, except it's Orgone.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers
