Let me amend my statement... It smacks of insensitivity and arrogance to pretty much... well, the rest of the world that isn't Aryan. You know the Jews that the Nazis wanted exterminated from the planet. The Africans that the Nazis wanted exterminated from the planet. The Slavic people that the Nazis wanted exterminated from the planet.

Well, no. There's perfectly valid reasons for your feelings, and I'm sure you can present meaningful and thought-provoking arguments for why it is so, since you're a pretty smart guy.

However, you did come off as an arrogant American because you first declared Iron Sky and/or stuff like Allo Allo to be inconsiderate towards a group which doesn't think so, and then defending it with shit like "AMERICANS SAVED YOUR ASSES!".

My blanket hatred of Nazis, what they did and what they stand for may have colored my comments. I had family that died in Italy, on both sides that I never got the chance to know. As well as relatives that fought and died in the American military that likewise, I will never have the privileged of knowing. That never has, nor will it ever sit well with me. Not to mention what else I have already said on the subject.

I'm all for poking fun at Nazis, but there is a line with me that people cross far too often that goes from poking fun AT to having fun WITH. This movie crosses that line in my eyes.

I can't say if the movie goes NAZI = AWESOME or makes them look like idiot comic book villains before I see it, but I get why you'd consider it a blurry line.

And believe it or not,Poles do treat this stuff seriously enough. The Auschwitz museum is one of the most depressing places I've even been to.

We just aren't offended at war fiction which is light hearted because as you wrote in an attempt to piss me off (:D), humor was one way of dealing with the horrible reality of the occupation (in fact, the underground resistance movement had an entire division devoted to propaganda that busied itself with making Germans look like complete tools).

I guess that this tradition of mockery colors perceptions quite a bit.

I think it's characteristic of many peoples who've had to endure a whole lot of suffering, anguish and ordeals to retrospectively look back at things with both solemnity and somberness, such as in the case of the Auschwitz memorial to the countless millions exterminated by the Nazis in their campaign of extermination in Poland and East Europe, and then later on with levity and humor in the case of a lot of the lighthearted WW2-set media treasured by Poles and Slavs and even Russians (whose movies are almost always depressathons!).

It is very interesting that this outlook developed in some of the places that have sacrificed so much in fighting the likes of the Nazis. Some of the worst parts of World War 2 occurred in the Eastern Front, the exterminations, the war crimes, not just entire families, but entire cities and populations wiped out. Its unthinkable, its unknowable. Yet years afterwards, the survivors and their descendants can somehow live on and cope with it in such ways. What resilience and strength. It's quite curious too how these people's outlooks became like this.
