Is any SF show currently airing or about to air in the US?
Other than Doctor Who (a british show) absolutely nothing seems to be in the works in my favorite genre. Or at least that is the impression I get from the other side of the pond. Am I missing something? Or has the follow-the-leader focus firmly moved onto fantasy? And what happened to that show that took place after an alien invasion?

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester

Well, there's The Clone Wars. Other than that, I can't think of much.

The show you're thinking of is Falling Skies, it's a summer show and won't be airing a second season til mid-June.
Other than that, there's Alphas, Clone Wars, Blood and Chrome.

The networks are on a fantasy kick at the moment with Grimm and Once Upon a time. Fringe is still on Fox, that's pretty sci-fi, and the River has some odd sci-fi/fantasy elements to it as well.

Yep, Fringe just came back from a break. That's about it, really.

Any ideas when Alphas will be back? Loved the season finale.

Last I heard, Syfy still didn't know what they wanted to do with Blood and Chrome. It's entirely possible they will not produce the series.Ahriman238 wrote:The show you're thinking of is Falling Skies, it's a summer show and won't be airing a second season til mid-June.

Haven't heard anything since a second season was confirmed. I presume it will likewise happen when the major networks slip into their summer schedule around mid-June.Enigma wrote:Any ideas when Alphas will be back? Loved the season finale.

Yeah, theres Eureka in June I believe (could be wrong). Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary have some sci-fi like elements (more the former). But they aren't strictly sci-fi (despite being on the Sy-Fy network...), at least not in the more sci-fi purist sense. But while I know that W13 is coming back (eventually), I don't know about Sanctuary.

I had read Blood and Chrome was going to be made into a movie instead of a miniseries.

Did Alphas get better (i.e. less formulaic and predictable in a "we took characters and plots form other, better, media" way) after the first episode?
And I am watching the first episode of The River right now, so far it looks good. Though not very SciFi-y.

It's mostly supposed to be fantasy/horror if I remember right.Skgoa wrote:Did Alphas get better (i.e. less formulaic and predictable in a "we took characters and plots form other, better, media" way) after the first episode?

Re: Is any SF show currently airing or about to air in the U
Well I think the show started pretty good and only got better, you may feel differently, of course. A number of the mystery episodes were very good about keeping us guessing, plus some serious character growth/insight on everyone, plus a sprinkle of moral ambiguity and the continued theme that when you think about it, having superpowers could really suck. All the Alpha team have some moderate to serious psychological issues. So does everyone else with powers, like the man who can always tell when people are lying, and can't trust anyone.Skgoa wrote:Did Alphas get better (i.e. less formulaic and predictable in a "we took characters and plots form other, better, media" way) after the first episode?

I'll admit, they probably took a big step backwards in the season finale, when it turns out the leader of Red Flag is an immortal. That is just a bit cliche. But that was outweighed by the insane awesomeness of the rest of the finale, culminating in Dr. Rosen revelaing the Alpha phenomena to the world before getting seized by guards. It'll be very interesting to see how that pans out, and i'm really looking forward to the show starting again.

Alcatraz certainly has some sci-fi elements. And Sam "Jurassic Park" Neill to boot. Haven't seen much of either (just parts of episodes when my girlfriend watches them when I'm home), but it reminds me of a Warehouse 13 that takes itself way too seriously.

I'm pretty sure it's already been canned by Fox.DesertFly wrote:Alcatraz certainly has some sci-fi elements. And Sam "Jurassic Park" Neill to boot.
