The new Tron cartoon

So I watched the pilot. Without going into spoilers here is my reactions.

- animation is combination of great and not so great. The background is wonderful to look at. The character faces not so much. I heard the faces were done in 2D and the integration process was...not so smooth. Still visuals are some of best in a cartoon to date.

- the story is extremely rushed for a pilot episode. Too many things happen too quickly. it almost seem like someone stitched togather a dozen 5 minute mini episode and according what I hear from some this may be true. They have intended lots of mini shorts and only later produced a full length episode.

- the story and characterization is overall exciting and interesting. unfortunately it is let down by poor editing and aforementioned problems. Everything rushes TOO FAST with too little exposition or chance to connect with the people and the setting.

- it is extreme gory, violent for an American cartoon. People die onscreen in various gory ways.

- It is also surprising in many ways. The bad guys are presented as actual people right from the beginning. They reacted in ways that surprised me.

- they seem to take great care to fit everything into universe of both Tron movies. yet at same time I wonder how the plot will die into Tron : Legacy. Given the care shown by writters I expect some clever twists and turns ahead and a possible morbid ending.

- overall the series has potential and I look forward to the next episode.
