Late 1990s pilot episode or miniseries with space cadets.

Post by The Duchess of Zeon »

I watched it at a friend's house; Late 1990s or early 2000s, I think on UPN. Involved space cadets who have to fight a real battle, evil militaristic humans versus good humans but all sort of militarized and authoritarian, like Starship Troopers but with spaceships with generic CGI graphics laser clusters instead of fighting on the ground. Was not put into regular production but heavily hyped at the time. I'd like to know the name and any information about it, as I can't remember that.

Did it resemble CGI Starship Troopers at all? I distinctly remember one or two shows from the early '00s that literally just reused character models from that show.

That might help narrow it down, if true.

Star Command 1996. Funny enough I looked that one up not that long ago. The writer did a couple dozen episodes of Star Trek TNG.

Ah I see, I saw "Starship troopers" and "CGI" in the same sentence and thought of the TV series.

I was rather fond of that TV series for a while back around... it came out in '99, so that must have been it.

Star Command is not actually it. The bad guys wore solid red uniforms and there was no torture dungeon. Much more slick production values.

No Mechs.

Simon: It did resemble CGI Starship Troopers a lot.

Actually, I'm sort of thinking it was Star Command, the more I think about it--the revelation that it was 1996 sort of makes sense but that means it was when I was a lot younger than I thought so the memory is probably fuzzier than I expected.

Might be conflating features of two or more different series- I've done that from time to time.

Can't be, humans fight aliens in that series.
