Well, I respect Block's opinions on the film. I can see why he'd feel that way. Like I said the slowmo sequences seemed to be to be buiilt around 'ooo! look this is in 3D!', though Zor's interpretation is cool as well.

I'd disagree with its bombing therefore its bad. Things don't have a poor opening according to the qualitity of the movie itself, how can it? No-one seen it yet. Things failling for being genuine bad are where it has a good opening with then a rapid drop off.

Because of how well its advertising got people interested in it. As well as the stuff I mentioned. Competition from other realease. The fact its an R limiting its audience and it only being in 3D, limiting the number of screens it can be shown on and jacking up the price per ticket which can discourage people from going/

So Block, why did you go see an 18+ movie that had gore and slow-mo allover the trailer in a movie that we all knew had a plot that could be summed up in a line or two when you know you dislike these kinds of movies? I knew I would like this, I don't mind gore in a movie like this; those brain effects when they did the close up were very well done, the same goes for the face explosions. I can also understand why they did the plot given the budget they had, they simply couldn't explore the world with the depth for much more and this introduces the characters perfectly if, by some miracle, a sequel gets made.

They didn't touch on much besides her being able to read people, though in some cases she did that pretty quickly and was able to get the drop on people because ofit.

Saw it, enjoyed it. I've never been into Judge Dredd much but I enjoyed the movie nonetheless. Karl Urban really does do a good job with his roles. I thought the ultra-violence suited the movie overall, as did making Slo-mo increase the 3D. I thought Slo-mo making things more colorful as opposed to the dull colors otherwise was a nicely done contrast.

A question for people who know more about the backstory: how common are corrupt Judges? I certainly wasn't expecting that, though it might be something that happens in the comics.

Pretty damn rare, but known. The penalties are extremely strict. (20 year exile to the mines on the moon of Titan. It's worse than it sounds). Dredd's clone brother (in the comics) was sent there.

Looks like I am going to go see this sooner than I anticipated. It is bombing hard and may only be in theaters another week or so.

This just came out in Oz. I thought it was pretty freaking awesome, one of the best action movies I've seen in ages, for sure. Its a shame it bombed - it got good reviews, but there was apparently just no marketing.

I really don't know why the movie bombed.... Its actually pretty damn good. I would rank it above Expendables 1 and in comparison to some of the other action films that came up this year, its not that bad.

The only problem i can see is lack of plot.... but frankly, it was tied in with the comics theme. We got some good character progression of Anderson, Dredd was the anchor for the film and cracked good one liners....... and the last scene where Judge Dredd just.... says the whole thing was a drug bust.. it really brought to you the sheer violence and grimdark of the movie. All that senseless deaths, the violence seen, the fighting up 100 floors......... and it was just a simple drug bust in Mega city.

Not some epic world ending threat. Not a hero saving the day for everyone. Just another day in Megacity 1.

As said above I'd say its mostly been down to the apparently total lack of advertising. I dont think I saw a single trailer for it or any posters. I've been vagely aware of it from this board but I only saw it was on because I check my local cinema listings each week it just sort of poped out at me rather than thinking oh Dredds coming out this September I better keep an eye out for it.

Interesting I saw a trailer for it pretty much every time i went to the cinema. Obviously for similar things. Avengers, The Dark Knight, Expendables 2.

I didn't take Dredd's statement at the end to mean this was literally a normal day for him. Just extreme deadpan Humorous understatement.

To be honest going by the comics, yes, this would indeed be a tuesday for Dredd, any day when the threat is not the destruction of the whole city if not the world or more is a fairly standard case.

The bulk of 40K novels center around Space Marines in one form or another. Can you see Space Marines being 'lighthearted' or 'Zany?' in the current setting? THey try so hard (and fail) to go for that serious tone that it becomes unintentional hilarity and Space Marines have to be all hardcore and grim and fatalistic and killtastic and there's no real room for human elements like compassion or silliness. Thing is in the earlier days of fluff the tone was lighter and you could do that, even with Space Marines. Epitome of that being 'Wolfblade'.

I'm hoping to see it this weekend. But from what I hear it certainly seems like it's just another day for Dredd. He's certainly used to a lot more crazy than this.

The movie is quite good. I wouldn't call it just another day for Dredd, more one of those "shitty day at work" kind of days.
