Alright simple question here. The current show Defiance, claims that it's going to tie into the MMORPG game. Does anyone know how it's going to be done? I seriously can't fucking see how....
When I think of combining 2 forms of media, I think of stuff like Warhammer 40k novels and the tournament games, that whatever happens in the tournaments affect the 40k verse. Anyone calls bullshit on this Defiance+MMORPG thing?
Defiance: How exactly does it tie into the MMORPG game?

I'm fairly sure that even the people making it don't know either and the idea will quietly die whilst no-one's looking.

Call bullshit on the whole franchise heh, it's pretty stinky as a show and a game.

That assumes that players have any control over what happens in the MMO. But everything I've heard about the MMO says it's a theme park MMO, so players are just acting out the content the developers put in.AndroAsc wrote:When I think of combining 2 forms of media, I think of stuff like Warhammer 40k novels and the tournament games, that whatever happens in the tournaments affect the 40k verse. With player actions out of the way, that just leaves things happening 'simultaneously' in the MMO and TV series that keep reminding everyone that they are linked. Or, if they want to do it badly, have things happening in one that only make sense if you are paying attention to both.

It would be easy enough to come up with a structure such that if X number of players have achieved Y milestone in the game then it heads in one direction, otherwise it goes in another, and have the outlines of each planned in advance.
But that may underestimate how quickly MMO players will tear through new content.
