The Lord Inquisitor: 40K Animation

Post by Lost Soal »

OK, so I stumbled across this site called http://thelordinquisitor.com/ and decided to share it with you.
The Philosophy behind this project is to make a short visual tribute to the world of Warhammer 40.000 created by Games Workshop®. This universe they created is that huge, that it is basically not posible to make a movie showing all aspects of the world of the 41st millenium.
However, in today’s time the possibilities for creating more or less photorealistic images and animation with the help of computer power has become more and more easily to access for individuals, that it is possible for a single person to create and visualise a specific vision he/she got in mind.

Because I’m a 3D artist and love reading Warhammer 40.000 books, I decided to create a short animation about this universe and its characters. Of course, this is totally unofficial and non-commercial; it’s just a project from a fan for fans. However, as most people of the W40k world know, it is not allowed to make movies about Warhammer 40.000 – but because this is all completely done in 3D (CGI), it’s an animation and therefore has other legal apsects as declared on the website of Games Workshop:
“We would probably not have a problem with anyone creating animations based upon our intellectual property – as long as there is no commercial connection to that creation. Again, please be careful of the language used and the topics discussed.”

Because of that I consider my project as legal and tolerated by Games Workshop, and hopefully it will stay like that until it is finished.

This short animation and its progress is totally free for everyone to watch, and I don’t want to earn a single cent for making it. This is just my CGI passion I want to share with all fans who love Warhammer 40.000

All looks very impressive and I look forward to seeing the finished article

The animation is excellent, the voice acting less so.

That the project has reached this stage without a 'Cease and Desist' letter written in blood from GW suggests either tacit approval or that the team have managed to cover their collective posterior well enough to avoid trouble. At least I hope that's the case, as this could be very entertaining.

I believe that's the one that ADB is a part of as a writer, isn't it?

He's listed as story writer in the crew section

Yeah, anyone else remember 'Damnatus?'

The pauses in speech grate a bit, I assume this is supposed to be a verbal tic of the titular Inquisitor.

So we have a xenos artifact, reported stolen by Chaos but actually not and an Inquisitor's worst fears regarding said object justified (Warp Daemons, it's always Daemons.) Anything I'm missing?

Also, there's not many people who can pull off the pelt over power armor look. Just about the only ones still alive live on Fenris or in the Eye.

Didn't GW go after Damnatus because of some issues with German copyright law ?

The Lord Inquisitor isn't being produced in Germany, so those problems won't occur.

Actually, I remember hearing that GW officially stamped their approval of this project a while ago. So no worries on that front.

There's an excellent interview with Aaron Dembski-Bowden on The Lord Inquisitor's Facebook page:
++www.facebook.com/notes/the-lord-inquisi ... 1764034081

Let me know if anyone can't access it for some reason, I'll put it here.

There are some very interesting topics he sheds light on, including GW's (controlled lack of) canon structure.

Sorry for the necromancy, but did you see this trailer?

Q: How are children made in the TNG era Federation?

A: With power couplings. To explain, you shut down the power to the lights, and then, in the darkness, you have the usual TOS era coupling.

This actually seems to be better than that "Ultramarines" movie in every respect save for the voice acting.
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

It's too bad it's just officially allowed but not really invested in, taking a long time.

Yep, wish they'd go faster. Someone should throw some money at them, see if that speeds things up.
Maybe they could try Kickstarter, iunno.

It's been a while certainly.. I thought this might be a new thread, then I saw a post, by me, that I don't remember posting!

Games Workshop are only allowing this if the people making it make no money from it at all. Not even donations. Throw money at it and GW lawyers will shut it down. Just like they did with Damnatus after it was finished.
