Re: You Are Jupiter Jones [RAR-and spoilers]
In the film there appeared to be some aliens/people who were employed to keep up the masquerade; the above mentioned skyscraper repair bots and the dog mans instance that this happens all the time but most witnesses memories are wiped for example. As these aliens/people work on Earth would their employment contract transfer to Jupiter? If so then Jupiter would actually be in control of what to the Galactic Community at large is the equivalent of an overnight security guard, but would work to bootstrap Earth's technology base if she wished.

I'm sure there are plenty of Trektards, Creationists and similar creatures suitable for harvesting. Along with the three Abraxas siblings. Make their harvesting and the harvesting of their loyalists a public event, to serve as a warning of what happens to even the lowest ranking person who's even the most incidental part of any conspiracy against me.
After all, it's not like they're human beings or anything.

Well if we are doing that than why not extend the cull to obvious undesirables? I am sure that all the wealth this scenario entails would be sufficient to pay for the capture of large amounts of ISIS fighters and similar people. Nobody is going to miss them. Also like mass murderers and the like. And that guy that once looked at me funny.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.
You win. There, I have said it.
Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

Don't feed the troll, Cinnabar.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Yea, the Watchers seem like they'd almost certainly transfer. They're made for loyalty, I assume they count as part of the infrastructure.J Ryan wrote:In the film there appeared to be some aliens/people who were employed to keep up the masquerade; the above mentioned skyscraper repair bots and the dog mans instance that this happens all the time but most witnesses memories are wiped for example. I do think they have to be genetic heirs, but that's doable.Simon_Jester wrote:Good reason to have new heirs- as I understand it, Jupiter is free to designate new heirs to her own fortune, and is not required to will her planet(s) to the existing Abraxas siblings.
Hm, considering what happened *last* time (gigantic collapse, countless dead), there may be laws against selling clone-stuff (unless you can find a way to get around whatever-the-flaw-is), but using it in-house is a clever solution...Also, I will note that at least one method of producing rejuvenation serum (making it from the bodies of brainless clones in vats) should be something we can implement at least on a small scale within a period of a few decades. After all, we're explicitly told that such cloning was in use millions of years ago. If one wanted to spend time and effort recreating a production mechanism for 'cruelty-free' rejuvenation treatments, this method could be revived at least on a scale sufficient to preserve the lives of oneself and select others.
[This would also tie well into plans to undercut the market for genocide-extracted rejuvenation treatments by selling cheaper ones derived from clones.]

Such laws may exist. On the other hand, most laws can be changed on a timescale of decades or centuries. For instance, one might argue that the planets full of harvestable beings still exist, and restrict production of clone-harvested rejuvenation serum to a level that could plausibly be sustained by harvesting the planets.
Thus, the balance of power is maintained, while the pressure to harvest planets quickly and prematurely before they are "ripe" is reduced.

Really it's not really possible to speculate a strategy without knowing more about the setting. Perhaps cloning is banned and the Aegis (or god help us, the legions, the art for the deleted scenes with them makes everyone else look civilian) would come after us if we tried to start it up, or perhaps there's some nightmarish FDA we have to deal with. Or a mad Caligula-esque Emperor.

I am pretty sure if the Jupiter Universe were meant to have such a figure, it would have been mentioned in the movie... Ever instance of any sort of ruling authority was always made of the Queen Mom, who seemed a rather easy going sort for living for 90,000 years.NecronLord wrote:Really it's not really possible to speculate a strategy without knowing more about the setting. As far as the Legions, well if they are anything like the Aegis I think they would be quite amiable. Again, since we see the Aegis boarder on Captain Carrot levels of Nobility, Honor and Loyalty, I can't imagine them going out of their way to stir things up. Again if anything they, or the leadership, may softly support putting an end to Planet Harvesting.
More to the point, it IS a RAR mang These have always been about "What If" and teasing out those things a movie or book didn't specify with our own imagination
Getting back to the discussion at hand...
For me, I don't think I could really do anything until we deal with Earth... The current state of earth is a horrible mess, and we are out right told the industry types wanted it this way. Make a planet grow as fast as possible with as much population as possible, and then just before the Planet collapses utterly from lack of Resources and chaos, you harvest.
Well thanks to our Real Life oh so nice History, Earth is certainly at the 'almost' collapsing point... I'd say that aside from getting a very small operation of NON people based Rejuvenation liquid going.. My Main concern for the first 100 years or so, is doing what is needed to:
A: Fix Earths Pollution and resources problems
B: Stabilize it's governments and war zones as much as possible.
C: Enter it into the Galactic stage and hopefully get it submitted as a 'Member Planet"
Basically make it apparent in no uncertain terms that Earth, my home land, is hear to stay,
Once I feel it has been established and accepted by the Galaxy at large, I think I could settle down and work more towards ending planet harvest.,

You know just to follow up on that...
Given what we see of "Planet Paper Work" and the fact this has been going on for a million years or more...
I would not be at all surprised if there is a whole Sub Comity devoted to doing what is needed to bring a Planet like Earth out of 'Harvest' status and into the Galactic Community. I mean, surely Earth is not the first instance of someone trying to save a Farm World? I would not be surprised if there are whole "Save The Crops from Harvest!" groups... Or something like that.

I think some object, but do remember, it is literally the most valuable commodity in the universe (note how the Aegis ship... used some for medical purposes), has a special set of laws for those who control (injuring a noble can get a legionnaire executed- Stinger had to sacrifice his career to save Caine), and, notably, is controlled by hereditary families who can live immense times, so there's not many people in a position like Jupiter to bring forth the proposal... and they, of course, all rely on it for their immense lifespans, giving them limited reason to.Crossroads Inc. wrote:You know just to follow up on that...

Movements like that are probably why there are strict rules on doing it humanely, and, hm, you are right that in their millions of years (iirc the dinosaur extinct was implied to be involved- that is to say, Earth was likely originally intended to evolve those dragon-ish types and was reseeded for human-ish types later) there may be a procedure for turning a Harvest World into a recognized world or whatever they call them, owing to millions and millions of years of eccentric nobles some of who may have given up individual worlds, but similarly, there's going to be a lot of pressure from not just the fellow nobles who control the commodity, but those who use it, to make sure that it doesn't happen *too* much and threaten the supply.
