A little Farscape vs. SW.....
Talyn as of season 3 vs. one Victory Star Destroyer I.
To compensate for Talyn's apparent lack of energy shields, the VSD's shields are down to 40% due to a previous engagement. It has no damage to its systems. Talyn and the VSD start out about 10km away from eachother. Talyn has Crais on-board and the VSD has a captain onboard with approximately the competence of your typical Minbari Ranger.
Weapons are limited to 4km on both sides, and ICS is thrown out the window for this debate for the sake of keeping it clean since the status of ICS is rather....shaky at best.
No hyperjumps or starbursting. This is a straight-up fight to the death.
Who wins?

This one is very difficult to judge
There is very little data on the capability of Farscape weapons from the series itself. We have virtually no examples such as, say, the asteroid vapourisations of TESB to give us any standard basis for calculation. We've seen Tailyn destroy ground targets, but because Tailyn is growing, the capabilities of the ship's weapons, like many other features of that ship, are not a constant.
It's very hard to say one way or the other on this one.

I'm sorry, but the ICS has official status in the SW universe. Don't like it, that's just too bad. And why are you limiting the weapons to 4 km? Sounds like you've rigged this whole thing to try to score a victory against SW.Vertigo1 wrote:Talyn as of season 3 vs. one Victory Star Destroyer I.

Also, I haven't seen any evidence of weapons power greater than MT range in Farscape. The VSD would turn Crais into dust.

Re: A little Farscape vs. SW.....
I threw out ICS because of all the bickering its caused. Its better to leave it out than to spend the entire thread bitching about it. I limited the weapons to 4km so some rabid warsie won't come in yapping about how the VSD would take out Talyn hundreds of thousands of km away with no trouble. The VSD has to actually FIGHT this time. I'm not trying to rig anything. I'm trying to even things up.GrandMasterTerwynn wrote:I'm sorry, but the ICS has official status in the SW universe. Re: This one is very difficult to judge
We do have an example of extreme lower-limits of Talyn's main cannon. He fired one shot at his lowest setting that took out the shield Moya was using and destroyed it. (Note: This shield is meant to protect a ship slightly larger than an ISD with a crew of 10,000.)Patrick Degan wrote:There is very little data on the capability of Farscape weapons from the series itself. You are deliberatley dumbing down the VSD in order to give Talyn a chance.
My view is that if a undamaged, unhindered VSD can vape Talyn, that's just too bad. Life isn't fair.

Yes in order to make it fair why not simply turn talyn into the fully grown peacekeeper version? with peacekeeper defence screen (Moya had one for a while)

or put the mile long Peacekeeper command carrier vs either the ISD or the VSD, the cannons used by both the carrier and Talyn are the same type are they

The ICS only causes "bickering" because the trekkies and other people are whining about the power levels being too high, when they are easily on the low side for what SW is capable of.Vertigo1 wrote:I threw out ICS because of all the bickering its caused.

Not good enough
The problem is, we don't have a scale by which to gauge the power output of Tailyn's weapons, the power output of Moya's shield generators, the maximum power-charge it would take to take down Moya's shields, and the effectiveness of Farscape weapons against clearly measurable solid matter targets. We have no figures as to power or range. We've seen weapons in action, but only in ship-to-ship combat or the one instance of Tailyn's ground attack in the rescue of John Chriton after he had been taken by Scorpius to retrieve the neural implant chip. The weapons and shields of ships in the Farscape universe could be either as powerful as that found in Star Wars or even weaker than those of Star Trek. The lack of solid data is, to say the least, maddening for these purposes.Vertigo1 wrote:We do have an example of extreme lower-limits of Talyn's main cannon. Hey, those are the conditions of this debate. Don't like it? Too bad. Life isn't fair. Click the back button if this is all you're going to do.

Which is precisely why I threw it out. Re: Not good enough
Hmm, thats true. There's no telling how powerful he could have been when he reached his full size. Isn't it possible to gain SOME idea how powerful Moya's shield was from the power it required to cover atleast half a command carrier? (IIRC, a command carrier has two of those generators, that cover the ship from both sides. Its been a long time since I've seen PK Tech Girl (I think thats the name of the ep) when they recovered that shield generator so don't hold me to that.)Patrick Degan wrote:The problem is, we don't have a scale by which to gauge the power output of Tailyn's weapons, the power output of Moya's shield generators, the maximum power-charge it would take to take down Moya's shields, and the effectiveness of Farscape weapons against clearly measurable solid matter targets.
