Resident Evil Situation on a ST ship.
Ok lets say a ship, doing deep space biological warfare studies for section 31 and is equiped with a cloaking devise. Something horrible goes wrong with the T-Virus research. Eventually the infection spreads through out the ship and the power shuts down and the cloak disables. Now enter a random Fed ship warps in and finds some undesignated Federation ship dead in space with no life signs. (Lets say by now the air born strain of the T-Virus has died out and no other viruses were released into the air) Naturally they beam a away party onto the ship of 5 people. Suddenly a plot hole opens up and sucks in the the non-infected ship.(Basicly the away team is stuck for a little while on the ship) Now natural cause there are zombies involved so the away team splits up to search different areas of the ship. Lets say there is mainly the scattered crew of researchers and test subject zombies with the occasionally licker, some hunters, and a tyrant. Each away member has a hand held phaser and two have tricorders.

Heh well if one of thems Smart they can head to the bridge run through a variaty of small sidequests then Close the Doors, activate the Transporter and start tossing Zombies then to be safe, Blow em up with a Torp
Make that four torps
And then another one to be safe...
And some Phaser Blasts
Maybe Another Torp
That should be good

Tyrant rips them apart. I'm sorry, but ST ground forces are going to be hard pressed to take down an agile Licker, and will never stop the full glory of the Tyrant.

I don't recall there being any evidence of what a phaser set to vapourise (or whatever they call it in trekland) would do to zombies in any of the RE games (or the movie, for that matter), but then again redshirts rarely seem to know their assholes from their elbows.

Don't you know the rule about these type of stuff in the horror genre? It's never that easy to get away. Chances are, one of the away team gets bitten but didn't say anything about it, and the Tyrant manages to somehow sneak aboard, etc.SCVN 2812 wrote:After vaporizing a bunch of zombies, the away team beams out and their ship just blows up the infected ship. Shouldn't be too hard considering they know it's weaknesses. A single precision targeted torpedo could do it.

No, one of them got bitten, got the anti-virus, but it didn't work, and the Tyrant's latest mutation is hanging on to the ship.Lord of the Farce wrote:Don't you know the rule about these type of stuff in the horror genre? And if the infected ship does get blown up, the Umbr... ah, Section 31 traitor in the away team had smuggled some of the virus samples, and sets it loose. This, along with the bitten guy from the away team, means more zombie chaos (and this time, on Deep Space Nine)!SirNitram wrote:No, one of them got bitten, got the anti-virus, but it didn't work, and the Tyrant's latest mutation is hanging on to the ship.Lord of the Farce wrote:Don't you know the rule about these type of stuff in the horror genre? Of course, when they use the plotline on voyager it turns out that voyager was equipped with the mark 4 antivirus, which actually brings one of the zombies created in the previous encounters back to life for a cameo, before the poor schmuck dies anyway, and Janeway pulls a Ripley again to destroy the Tyrant who is lounging in the holodeck.

Considering the lax attitude the Feddies take towards quarintine, it going to be a bloodbath.
Some poor unlucky red shirts beam over. Soon enough they're mobbed by zombies and someone gets scratched. They beam out and soon the rescue ships is infected, with mutants instead of just zombies. Eventually they'll wise up and just obliterate the infected ships but not before there's a high deathtoll.
I doubt a phaser would be very effective. They don't do heavy bodily damage like todays guns. A few burns won't stop a zombie and the energy will probably give the T-virus a major kickstart. That means they'll need to use vaporise on the zombies. They'll run out of power really quick that way. Any sort of defense is going to be futile.

Ehr ever heard of biofilters ? For transporters, chances are high that they pick up any infected member of an away team before beaming ( at least, I hope so, since their efficiency vary with the plot ).
The question is : would tircorders spot zombies or mutants ? Since they're dead or close to it... do zombies produce some heat, neural flux ? Since they're not supernatural, I think...
And crewmen would surely spot some weird things with tricorders, and pay more attention to what they're doing ( I hope so ... )
Anyway, since the Enterprise-D's crew survived a Psi 2000 infection with Tasha Yar and Troi loosing their inhibitions and Wesley having control of the ship, I don't think it's a bunch of undead that will frighten a Federation redshirt ...
Phasers set to vaporize, enjoy !

They work only on viruses that they've previously encountered. An absolutely moronic way to do it but this is UFP we're dealing with.Ehr ever heard of biofilters ? Season 5, Ep# 115: "Power Play"
BEVERLY: I've compared the away team's last transport trace patterns to earlier records. They're exactly the same, except in Troi, Data and O'Brien there's an unusual synaptic activity -- some kind of anionic energy. It may be a life form superimposing neural patterns onto our people.
Design: their transporter's bio-filter identified and logged an anomaly inside Troi, Data and O'Brien when they beamed back to the ship, but it did nothing and sounded no alarms. This is clear proof that it is designed like a modern computer virus scanner; it does nothing unless it encounters something which fits a predefined pattern. And they trust it to protect them against unknown pathogens! Unbelievable.
I doubt they'd realize what they were looking at until its too late. I'm sure they would pick up the zombies and such once they knew what they were looking for. Simply knowing there is something out there isn't enough to really protect themselves. The question is : would tircorders spot zombies or mutants ? Some little thing like a Psi-infection (those happen every other week) isn't the same thing as shambling un-dead corpses of comrades and creatures that look like they've come straight from hell. A bit of panic at the wrong time will be devastating.Anyway, since the Enterprise-D 's crew survived a Psi 2000 infection with Tasha Yar and Troi loosing their inhibitions and Wesley having control of the ship, I don't think it's a bunch of undead that will frighten a Federation redshirt
Eventually you'll run out of power, especially on vaporize. Numbers will eventually wear the feddies down. Everyone they loose will be another for the other side. The Zombies will beat any force sent in unless overwhelming forces is sent in at once.Phasers set to vaporize, enjoy !
Somthing few people relise with Convetional Zombies decaying flesh tends to realse alot of methane(Why they smell) thus making a Match on a stick the near perfect weapon(Well besdies a Flame Thrower, but what are the chacnes of the TNG or after crowd carring such a *primitive weapon)

Even on "kill", it would surely cause neural damages which would definately kill any undead ( doesn't the TM mentions something along those lines ? ) . And I don't think there are that much people on research ships - if any phaser has enough energy to vaporize 10 people ( which shines a bit pale in comparison with TOS phasers which could kill "hundrers of people" in The Omega Glory - even if we consider it an exaggeration, it makes a lot of people anyway ) , in a 6 members - away team, it means that you can destroy 60 undead - compare it with the 20 - 60 people a typical Oberth class is believed to carry.Stormbringer wrote:They work only on viruses that they've previously encountered. Trulies ? Wesley in command of the Enterprise is nothing compared to hords of viral undeads and surhuman mutants ? It was HUMOUR, something you didn't seem to apprehend

You wish to make the claim, then provide the evidence. I won't do your work for you.See S2 " Shades of Grey"
A bit of neural damge isn't enough to do it. The brain needs to be more or less obliterated. What if the ships is larger? An obereth is a rather small vessel and one unlikely to be wandering around alone and undefened with secret research. And what about misses? And how fast can they kill the zombies? If one so much as scratches a redshirt the infection will likely wipe out the ship.Even on "kill", it would surely cause neural damages which would definately kill any undead ( doesn't the TM mentions something along those lines ? ) . Along with their brains.weren't the guns downgraded since TOS?

It was a secret Section 32 ship researching a wide variety of bacteria and disease(I think thats how I stated it) I image it would be large, not galaxy class sized, but fully dedicated to secretive research, no family and other civilians, or room for them.
