Enterprise/DS9, directed by James Cameron

Post by CNS Sarajevo »

For both of these series, I always wished they had a tougher, gritter look and feel to them. When DS9 first started, I hoped we'd get to see the people who have to work to prop up the Federation, the blue collar crews who don't go to academies and who do the dirty work.

SO....how different do you think Enterprise or DS9 would have been if the shows had the look and feel of Aliens?

No electric Razor weapons
No Kligions droping ranged weapons to go melee(And nearly winning anyway)

Things would LOOk like they work NOT like they belong in a Hotel Gift shop

They look more to me like they belong in a Sharper Image.

Dare I say it? Starships with seat belts rather than relying on dodgy and quick-to-fail IDS field generators. They went down that road a little in Star Trek - The Motion Picture but never followed it up.

Uber-bad guys like the Borg stay invincible. Decent and logical storytelling gives the good guys victory, not contrived technobabble apparently written on the back of a napkin a few minutes before principal photography on the scene was due to start.
BenRG - Liking Star Trek doesn't mean you have to think the Federation stands a chance!

PICARD: What's this crap supposed to be?
RIKER: Earl Grey, I think.
GEORDI: Hey, Data, do the Thing.
DATA: I would advise against...-
<everyone shouts him down>
<Data puts his hand on the table. Worf grabs Geordi's hand, and places it on Data's>
GEORDI: Hey, not me, man.
WORF: It will be glorious and honorable.
GEORDI: Woah, Data, man...
<Data begins stabbing a laser scalpel between his fingers at random. Geordi screams>

No, I disagree with this. But I think I understand what you are saying.

I think the Borg, etc., should be defeated because the characters really come up with something bright. Develop new tactics, trick their opponents, or outhink the opposition.

If, late in the series, new tactics and weapons give the heroes a very slight edge, then that is OK by me.

This whole idea strikes me as a lot like sending Thrawn or Ender Wiggin to go teach strategy to the Kazon. IOW, an effort doomed to failure. One person cannot stand against a tide of brain sucking stupidity, be it the Kazon or Trek writing in general.
