I'm in the process of reading them. They're not too bad.

I think KJA's influence is minimal for the simple reason that they were based on Frank's notes and Brian over saw the books very carefully. Plus, I think KJA has a better handle on the Dune-iverse and actually gives a damn about the writing quality.

Anyonne have The Butlerian Jihad? Is it any good?

I'll read a Dune book with KJA's name on it at about the same time hell freezes over and pigs start flying past my house.

Prequels drive me nuts! I read House Atreides cover to cover in one sitting, I was so hungry for more Dune, but they so blithely gloss over canon it kinda offended me. Haven`t read Butlerian Jihad yet, but hear it`s something of a Terminator ripoff. Oh, hi everybody!

Iv read all the books except Butlerian Jihad, didnt know it was on sale. I thought that Fenring was handled very well in the prequels, and I loved how people who were underused in Dune were finally given some pages.

See, the way I look at it, if characters were underused in Dune, they were "underused" for a reason.

I was so disturbed by the abysmal lack of quality in Children of Dune and Dune Messiah that after reading them I refuse to even look at the cover art of anything whose title contains the word "Dune" alongside any other. The original was a classic. It was amazing. But its sequels that Herbert wrote were dreadful, and I really don't like the idea of someone else writing sequels or prequels to another person's works. Especially if it's Kevin J. Anderson.

And you know what's worse? Some of Neil Peart's books were co-written with Kevin J. Anderson. What the hell? Why is the lyricist for my favorite bands working with him???? Why?????

It's not just KJA whose writing the sequels. Brian Herbert seems to be the one that's doing a lot of the work. And he's working from notes Frank Herbert left.

I believe they intend to write a few new novels set after the classic series. Again from notes by Frank Herbert.

Some one said that the certain caracters were under used for a reason, don't be silly. I really enjoyed reading about Gurney Haleck an Duncan Idaho's turmoils on Gedi Prime, Gurney for one was a very neglected caracter. Part of the story got very crap, particularialy the bit were Jesica gets transfered to the Royal Court and Piter stealing her baby. Also i'm dissapointed at the apparent common use of Lasguns when according to the orginal time line Lasguns were very rarely used. Also the Baron rape story was funny. The ultimate revenge.

I orderd the Jihad book today off the net and i'll let you know what i think when it comes in.
