I appreciate what they were trying to do with the designs of the new Transformers, but fuck, I just hate them.

So does a turd, nobody things turds are 'good character design'. At least this time viewers might get some decent character animation.

Sideswipe looks like a neat design to me...though really, I'm kind of pissed off that Megatron gets a resurrection but Jazz doesn't.

Oh please Jazz serves no purpose other then to be ripped apart to show how BADASS Megatron is!

I liked the lead designer, Ben Proctor's original design style. Seems like they would have been easier to animate.

And to actually have an animated personality. And to get some of the better one-liners in the first movie. And to completely upstage that secret agent puke with gun-tractor-beam thing.

You can't seriously think that flighty, poncy version of Starscream looks better than the real movie version.

That version makes Starscream look like a fucking Gobot, not a Transformer.

I love the Transformer designs for the films. I don't know why people don't like them - is it a love for the boxy animated cheats of the comic which weren't transforming at all?

I personally love how, when in still pictures, you can't make heads or tails of them, but once seen in movement, their shapes can be clearly seen.

Also, the insectoid look makes them more believable in my eyes instead of blocky pieces of metal that really shouldn't be moving with any agility at all.

I'm curious how many of the new Transformers Josh Nizzi ended up designing for the film, since we already know they bought the rights for his awesome Demolisher design.

It's because there should be a middle ground between "boxy but you see which end is up" and "super-detailed scibbly mess of parts". It's not the added detail that makes the new designs so hard to digest, it's that they have too damn much detailing and fiddly bits, to the point where it becomes hard to even know what you're looking at.

Personally I was hoping they'd do something à la the current G1 comic's designs, or at least with that level of detailing; they are properly articulated and don't "cheat" very much with fake parts, but they are far more visually clean.

Besides, who says the classic designs don't work?

No it looks fucking awesome. Especially compared to that prima balerina Starscream you linked to earlier. I would like for Starscream to be a little less simian looking but that's a minor issue.

Yes it does, when you watch it still. I had no trouble making up the shapes during the actual movie.

Neither did I because I'm not a retard. Being able to tell them apart which is what I assume "making up the shapes" means, has ZERO bearing on the designs, which I find awful.

I can tell jeans from corduroys. You will still have to dress me while I was dead to see me in corduroys.

They are horrible designs.
