Organics are a Disease. . (My apologies for the short reply, but I couldn't resist it ).
Admiral Valdemar wrote:He did. What he is asking is whether they'll keep that, rather than tacking it on to the trailer when it wasn't there before.
The movie has taken considerable liberties regarding the old fan base, but it has been blunt/open about up till now, finangling such a homage in merely for the trailer then not including it would royally piss off the fan-base for no reason. (And It doesn't detract overmuch from the mass retaining "realism" of the giant space robot movie, as opposed to them changing mass ).

The screenwriters said the Cybertronian weapons are analogous to "pulse weapons." Missiles and bullets when they are in disguise, pulse weapons for when they are in robot mode. They wouldn't characterize them as "lasers."

Well I did think Blackout's weapon sounded like an energon powered Gatling gun of sorts. At least it isn't pew-pew lasers. If they had to do beam weapons, then they should always go the WOTW2k5 route rather than ST or SW.
...yeah, I'll take any SW weapon over neo-WotW. Sorry, those made me want to laugh. A lot.

How so? It's essentially a particle beam, any clothes that do get caught are totally robbed of any moisture or set alight. It's far preferable to the pew-pew bolts from SW which are nowhere near realism at least.

The no-mess total vaporizaton of bodies that left intact clothing behind was laughable. And very little about SW is realistic (same with neo-WotW, WTF was it with the "bury the machines and then beam in pilots in a few thousand years"? It made no sense whatsoever.) I don't have high standards for realism in a Transformers movie. I'll settle for looking cool and reasonable in-universe performance.

I've been over this elsewhere before. Hardly any clothing remains at the end and what is left is either charred or on fire anyway. The fact is, the explosive force of the body turning to so much ash blows fragments of clothing away, just as any explosion does. You expect 100% perfect vaporisation like magical phasers? Sorry, doesn't work like that (and the other plot point was discussed in detail also).
With regards to this movie, we see missiles as well as hearing a directed energy weapon but not actually seeing any effects. The designers have already stated they were going for bolts of energy rather than a beam, so if anything I expect it to be like tracer fire in some respects, visually at least.
I'd like to know where they get extra munitions from when expended though.

The shot of Bumblebee sitting on the back of the flatbed that Megan Fox is driving depicts him shooting what appear to be orange energy blasts, making a "pew pew" type sound.
No, my objection was the opposite. The vaporization was too perfect. The entire body goes, but the clothes remain? That's what I object to. The jacket remains mostly intact but the torso and hands are totally vaporized? How the hell can you vaporize the entire body, from head to feet, and still leave mostly intact clothes behind? I couldn't buy it. It was too clean.
As for the other plot point, I never saw a satisfactory answer for it. If it was posted on this board I missed it.

Now I've got the HD trailer downloaded, I checked Bumblebee as the first thing and yeah, you see fireball like things coming out. No real show of their effects though.

It was a 12A/PG-14 movie, so they couldn't show any gore or the like, so they didn't go with partial vaporisation, but otherwise it would have had things like limbs flying around. Though sometimes the beam was quite wide and had effects outside of the visible beam, so you could argue the body was within the beam and entirely disintegrated especially when the beam sweeps and catches most things in it too bar the odd piece of clothing. I'd have preferred they stuck with the original plan, they even had make-up of major burns on people who survived, though it was cut from the final movie.

I wasn't expecting "Saving Private Ryan" and it was less objectionable than Cruise's idiot kid surviving, but it was too clean and antiseptic for me. It screamed "PG rated death rays" and killed SoD for me. Blasted to char or big black burn marks on bodies would have worked just fine for me and kept the gore from being over the top.

That would have been better.

The thing is, showing people being incinerated, even almost instantly, probably still would have gotten the movie slapped with an automatic R rating.

Speaking of, what rating is Transformers destined for? I don't want to have to put up with a load of kiddies, but then it's not exactly a kid's movie here anyway.

PG-13, after an original R.

If it was an indie movie, maybe. Big studio with Spielberg at the helm would have been an easy PG-13. We're talking wholesome violence here, not dirty sex or swearing.

Spielberg and Tobe Hooper did the same thing back in 1982 when the MPAA first gave Poltergeist an R, urging that it be downgraded to PG* without any cuts being made, which explains why that film seems so intense.
*This was of course before PG-13 was introduced two years later, so the PG rating still covered a pretty broad basis, nowadays could be considered between a high G and a low R.

That quote is incorrect. The movie Shia is actually talking about that got rated R temporaily was Disturbia. He's in both films, so it's not suprising he mixed up a little bit about the news of the two.

LaBeouf was actually getting it confused with Disturbia, IIRC.
Nevertheless, it was a moot point, because Transformers is aiming at a PG-13 rating in the states anyway.
