He could also just mean that he hopes this wasn't the first time he heard the Halo movie was deader than Lenin. But, like any good zombie, it may rise again later. I'm no fan of Halo's gameplay, but it has such jazzy lookin' outfits that I think it'd make a totally sweet movie, if they did it right. If it features a lot of Master Chief though they might have an issue, since he really doesn't come across as 'grim realistic war veteran.' As people said elsewhere, Halo feels like an epic action movie in great part. How would the MC's character be altered to make it work within an 'ultragritty' war context?

That's kinda the one thing I liked about the cruddy short clips--emphasis on the normal soldiers.

Wrong. Halo is still Microsoft licensed intellectual property.
Not only that, but they're talking about continuing 'multimedia' products iwth Halo and Peter Jackson. So it sure sounds like they're going to keep trying to do something with their original idea, and I don't blame them. I hope they change directors though. I agree with his vision for the film being an ultra-gritty and realistic depiction of a war in space, but I haven't really liked his stuff to date. There's lots of people making good, gritty WWII movies who have already proven that they can handle a film without getting sidetracked in budgetary problems. Here's hoping they get something good out of it.
The peter jackson stuff is not a movie, but rather a game, Peter jackson decided to try making games.

Come on, Microsoft, just make your own damn film studio already! You have a guaranteed audience, we just want the movie.
I hope you wern't being serious.
Why do you hope that?
Because Microsoft has little to no knowledge of films and trying to sink more money into entertainment is fucking stupid?

Sony had little to no knowledge of films, at one point.

My major reason for wanting to see a Halo film is this:

I sincerely doubt there will ever be a Ringworld film.
The chances of seeing a good, semi-hard SF action film are between slim and none - and Halo's story has a hell of a lot of potential, even just as a straight action/horror film.
Ceci n'est pas une signature.

"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

Nevermind, I found it on that interview with Niell Blomkamp.
