You know, I'm having a really hard time following what the hell some of you people are trying to say (Nitram, you're attitude towards Alyeska is making it VERY hard to figure out what the hell you're trying to say exactly. And I have o fucking idea what Akamaru and Titanic are getting at, other than apparently suggesting the Stargate is one giant long-range Star Trek transporter.)

Would someone be so kind as to summarize the opposing viewpoints (preferrably without the insults?) For those of us following the discussion, its RATHER annoying. (admittedly, ,I'm not having much trouble following Necronlord or Zac, and I can make seom sense of what Alyeska is getting at I think.)

The stargate network is basicly a giant long-range transporter network.

Both the DHD and stargate have compuational abilities.

The DHD is the user friendly 'address book', and deals with the end-user. It provides a simplified interface and auto-update system which keeps the network's address's pointing to the right location.

The DHD and the Stargate work together to establish a connection, it is the stargate itself which reports on if it can establish a stable connection. Like Carter said; the stargate returns over 400 different return codes. The SGC only uses the very bare minium to get the gate to work most of the time, and since they ignore the error codes it causes problems.

The Stargate has fairly complex software inside it too, and as of yet we have not observed a software "driver" update which alters how the stargate works.

As I very simply put it when Alyeska made the same question.. That his position is wrong. That's all I've been arguing. Especially on this 'People see things when going through the gate' nonsense. They lack eyeballs.

I will say this however; given the flexibility and ridiculous robustness of Ancient and Goa'uld computers(ultimate in plug & play computing really) as well as the ludicious memory and processing power these devices have shown to have, it would be stupid to say they can not be software updates to the stargates.

The fact that matter is dematerialized and rematerialized proves this.

A better comparison would be a ring transporter, as you need a stargate at both ends. And a lot of the literature suggests they're related technologies.

As well as those transporter closets in Atlantis, but those just look to be a different style of ring transporter.

And those are litterially a transporter network, with touch screens to point were you want to go!

Okay I didn't mind this episode (it was actually quite good), and the Ronan guy didn't take Teyla out in the manner I speculated on in the previous episode's discussion, but rather seemed to have done what he did out of fustration at not being able to touch her. So I'm cool with that issue.

Although, I do suspect that the Wraith tagged him as a 'Runner' due to the fact that they couldn't feed off of him, so that's gonna come up a little later on I'd bet.
