You mean like Vectorman?
God Dammit, that was exactly what I thought of.

The robot looks like a complete knock-off of Johnny 5.

I don't think I'm going to see this one. Normally, I'd say I'd wait for the reviews, but that really won't help here since it's a Pixar movie and Pixar could film their dicks for two hours and everyone would be falling over each other about how it was the OMG BEST MOVIE EVAR!!!!111!

I can just see it now, Wall-E making lots and lots of Weighted Noncompanion Cubes because he sucks, and then a turret bot comes donw, lights up and says "There you are" and BLAM BLAM. Movie ends.

Hopefully this movie has some spunk. Doing a robot movie without actual, you know, bodies and hands and such is really just phoning it in more than CARS. I loved the Incredibles, but I even thought Finding Nemo was a bit of a cop out (c'mon, fish? Fucking FISH? How hard can it be to animate a fish?) even if I liked it and it's really been kinda meh from them. I thought Ratatouille was absolutely perfect though, so maybe they're doing Wall-E as an animation light, concept rich story that'll be enjoyable but just less 'animated'. More open vistas and quiet. It could be a daring new move--or suck. We'll see. Maybe the little meek robot will rise up and smite the newcomers? I'd consider that a kinda lame move, considering the advertising doesn't at all indicate that.
...you're fucking kidding me, right?

Animating fish with human expressions, in complex environments, with shitloads of water effects, is "phoning it in"?

You don't know that one of the shots in Cars was technically complex enough that it crashed the Disney render farm so they did Chicken Little while they were figuring out how to do it, I assume.

If you want to see an oil-and-circuitry (a la blood and guts) action film, there's a city's worth of crap out there. Robocop 3, 4, 5, 6, and onward are probably right up your alley.

Yes, it's thread necromancy, but if Zor got away with it - hell, I should be able to abuse my Senatorial powers once in a good while. Why the bump? The theatrical trailer is now out :D

The cinema I go to has a WALL*E mock-up sitting in the lobby, and every time you pass him he makes that adorable little robot noise.

The trailer looks beautiful. I'd given up on Pixar a bit after Cars, but this looks brilliant.

Really?
Was I the only person who liked Cars? I thought it was sweet. :(

Cars wasn't a bad movie, but it had a lot to live up to, and in the end it just didn't have that extra je-ne-sais-quoi that the other Pixar movies have. I also spent half the movie trying to wrap my head around how cars with no limbs could build houses - talking fish and toys I can deal with, but SOD only stretches so far.

Construction equipment, of course! :D
I just chalked it up to "cartoon telekinesis" like most armless or fingerless characters seem to have.
