The Asurans.
I'm wondering if this is the lead up for the destruction of the Galactic Bridge because the Asuran Weir should know where it is and if they intend on taking on Atlantis it is a prime target for cutting Atlantis off.
I hope not. It was expensive.
But I was impressed that the Asurans had weapons powerful enough to destroy stargates.

Err... When in this episode was that mentioned? In any case, the Asurans should logically have such an ability. The Ancients built just such a device in the Milky Way, after all, that was used by Anubis.
Never mind that backward primatives can do it with a bit of naquadah/naquadriah.

I'd say everyone. Clearly this is "evil Weir" with a diabolical plan to bring death and destruction to everyone. She could be a Asuran herself which broke away to form her own small sect bent on her own motives, or the old Weir with the same basic structure. Either way, she's obviously not on anyone's side but her own at the moment, so I'd say everyone.
It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.
Good ep, in the style of earlier SG1 really, in that there's no blatant 'stupidity by plot'. Everyone acts intelligently and questions their plans the way they should be questioned. Fran was cute, and it felt right how everyone was weirded out by talking to their cheerful, willing bomb.
I'm not sure, but it looks like both the earth ships are now fully refitted with asgard-hybrid tech energy weapons. Quite a feat, since it hasn't been all that long.
So yes, the person who played FRAN (what did that stand for again? Friendly Replicator An- N-) is hot, but apparently isn't credited. I couldn't find it at IMDb or Gateworld. Who the hell is she?
My brother and sister-in-law: "Do you know where milk comes from?"
My niece: "Yeah, from the fridge!"
The more interesting thing is now they have the ability to create walking bombs like that again if they choose. We never saw if those ships had access to Asgard beam / manufacturing technology so it is entirely possible that is the reason for them being refitted so quickly.
The battle wasnt that bad and easily one of the highlights of the season but I found the SG-1 Dakara battle more interesting. Pretty much no threat in this one at all with the Asuran ships just sitting there and all we see is explosive eye candy.
The probable outcome from this is the rest of the season being more fillers because they blew the budget for this and the finale. I'm really not that interested in watching Weir doing an 'evil' season like Carter.
PREDATOR490 wrote:The more interesting thing is now they have the ability to create walking bombs like that again if they choose.
Not really. It only worked as a bomb because it caused such a massive amount of Replicator bits to collapse in on each other. Otherwise it wouldn't do much as an explosive in and of itself.

Who says Weir is evil?

Until they run out of Neutronium.

Yes.
But they have stated repeatedly that do not consider machines to be persons, which explains their willingness to nukem, and implode their planet. While this is fundamentally evil (the same kind of thinking that made the Ancients give the Asurans homicidal impulses even when they begged to have them removed) it's more comprehensible than Weir, who appears to be surrounded by them, and is possibly one of them, still regarding them as non-persons.

When I said create walking bombs I meant they have the ability to make their own suicidal bots. Just like the IOA used the Asgard system to create replicators we now have the ability to create human replicators who are apparantly docile. Given the rather bleak view of Mckay I wouldnt be too surprised if we see that thing coming into play later against Weir.
As for why Weir is evil... she is wearing leather, on an Ancient warship, surrounded by replicators and got the omnious villian overshadow. If she aint evil or about to do something dodgey then I would be surprised. The rather swift end to the Asurans means the next few episodes will be fillers. I would expect the next thread will be back to avoiding the Wraith and Teyla finding her people + her pregnancy.
At the very least I am expecting a cliff hanger either with Weir or the Wraith coming for Atlantis now they know where it is.
I expect the Asurans were pretty docile in the beginning too.

I dont see how the Wraith can be seen as a threat any longer. If Atlantis is attacked with two 304s in orbit, how many Hives are required to destroy them and break through Atlantis shield?

Well we have a Wraith who has been on Atlantis for some time learning valuable intel about the place. I wouldnt consider it too far fetched for him to devulge that information to give them an edge.
It is also highly likely with the Asurans gone Atlantis will no longer feel the need to have their two ships hanging around thus leaving them vulnerable to attack from the Wraith.
We also have the unfinished situation of Teyla's people who may or may not be used as a tool to force Atlantis into a difficult position. Despite the refitted weaponary the ships do not have Asgard hyperspace which leaves Atlantis stuck if those ships are in the Milky Way. What we saw was only a small force of Wraith Hives anyway. With the Asurans out of the way and desperation to find a new food source it would seem much more likely for them to mount an assualt on Atlantis or the Galactic Bridge.
Let's blame the disappearance of the Athosians on Evil-Weir.

I wonder how they'll handle that. There isn't any real threat in the Milky Way at the moment, and they have The Odyssey. Could they spare two ships to defend Atlantis on a more permanent basis?
Or will they at least keep one ship there permanently?
It's an important outpost i'd have expected it to warrant at least one ship.

I fear a reset button.
Be sure, it's coming.
I originally thought Ark of Truth might have had the Asgard core destroyed, but this ep thankfully shoots that out of the water. But because of that, I have a hard time believing there's any reason for Earth NOT to prosecute the Wraith to the ends of the galaxy. Their unshielded ships should be little match for Asgard beam weapons. If they can capture one of those wraith devices that also helps them to discover where the wraith ships are (they've done this before, right?) then there's really no reason they wouldn't be able to use similar tactics against the Wraith.
So what's going to stop them? The Wraith will suddenly jump in technology and find a way to beat the Asgard beams as they did 5 seconds after they introduced the Asgard transporter on their ass? Weir? I expect some kind of button to be pushed that makes the Asgard weapons less effective overall.

I note that the Wraith ships now have some kind of auto-repair thing. It's possible that this will turn out to be prodigeous enough to match shields.

Was that new? Havent they mentioned that before? When they captured a Hive.
