Losses of expandable and extremely maneuverable interceptors are irrelevant since the carrier can reproduce them during the battle. With support from Scouts, the AA weapons will soon be destroyed, and the Carrier can then begin to clean up the remainder.

1. Corsairs disable gatling guns
2. Carriers cut gatling guns to ribbons
3. Arbiters call in ground reinforcements to overrun the base
4. If the defensive forces are too strong to be overrun in one swoop the Arbiters can put part of them in stasis and they can be dealt with later.

It disables all mechanical units including stationary defenses which are caught in it ie gatling turrets are unable to fire back and so are tank mounted missile launchers.
Makes them easy prey for air units.

Btw:
Admittedly RA2 has an overweight concerning ground units.
That's why SC will have to rely heavily on spaceship support.

Reaver comes along. Reaver fires one SCARAB which smacks Mammoth tank down.

Dragoon comes. Singularity charges incinerate everything in their path(watch the cutscenes, foo'). Most everything else bites the dust.

Tesla Coil fires. Lightning current is negated by Plasma Shield (the Protoss use plasma shields, and if you can sustain plasma shields, you have got to have a very powerful electrical field active.)

Rhino comes. Dark Templar sneaks up into Rhino, rips everyone inside a new one, then stalks off to the next one.
