You object to that line? I thought it was hilarious. The writer was clearly taking the piss out of some of Doctor Who's conventions. Similar to the 'yes, I've got that kinda of face, everyone tells me their plans' line. This was an acknowledgement of The Doctor's big speechs ala Eleventh Doctor or The Time OF Angels and turns it on its head.Crossroads Inc. wrote:So yeah.. What an "interesting" episode. Apparently the Doctor is going senile this series, which is the most I can figure out. I mean seriously: "Amy how do Humans act?" and "What is football?" and of course "Annihilate? NO! Violence BAD! no violence! I am the doctor the bringer of storms!" So the writers are evidently getting more and more psychotic in their writing of the Doctor..

I quite enjoyed the episode, it made me laugh and was, despite being silly, a reasonably good story.

Re: Doctor Who S5e11 "The Lodger" [Spoilers]
Decent standalone episode but I found the Doctor rather annoying in his ability to do EVERYTHING yet apparantly having no clue beforehand. Alright, the Doctor is super smart and wierd but is it really required to wank him to the point he can pick up football and be BRILLIANT at it in seconds. Suddenly, he can walk into someone's job and do it perfectly.
The headbutting scene was just stupid beyond belief. We have seen the Doctor employ telepathy better and for someone that went into a rant just over the meer mention of violence it makes him look like a hypocrit. If he can just headbutt people to give them information, why not do it to Amy Pond so she remembers Rory, eh ?
As for Amy, option:
A) She will Remember Rory
B) She will think the Doctor is going to give her a wedding ring.
I would hope it is the former but I can see them playing out B just for the extra drama it will create.
Next week:
Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans and a whole host of others apparantly. I foresee a buildup to an insanely stupid finale coming.

They did so in the First Doctor's stories before it was established how special a TARDIS was.Crossroads Inc. wrote:Also the alien TARDIS really wields me out. In all of DrWho there has been "time machines" but no race not even the Daleks I think have made "TARDIS"s at least not in the series.

Re: Doctor Who S5e11 "The Lodger" [Spoilers]
Considering that multiple Daleks and Dalek ships have been known to have "fallen through time" and thus escaped the Time War (the Dalek in "Dalek," the Dalek Emporer's ship in "Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways" and the ship from "Victory of the Daleks") maybe it is a TARDIS, albeit one even older and more obsolete than the Doctor's. The Doctor knows that none of the Time Lords other than himself survived the war, but that doesn't mean that some of their technology couldn't have gotten out and started trying to repair itself.

Re: Doctor Who S5e11 "The Lodger" [Spoilers]
Highly unlikely. The Doctor said that if he touched the controls it would blow up the solar system, because 'I'm far too much for this ship'. Bullshit hyperbole aside, if it was a Time Lord vessel it obviously would not have a problem accepting a Time Lord pilot.Drooling Iguana wrote:maybe it is a TARDIS, albeit one even older and more obsolete than the Doctor's.
Dalek ship, possible, but it doesn't have any of their design style, either the quite distinctive time war look or earlier. I prefer to think that in a whole universe of diverse species there are others who have developed that kind of technology. Of course, they got sucked to Earth by its impossibly powerful invisible weirdness magnet.

Re: Doctor Who S5e11 "The Lodger" [Spoilers]
We'll never know who made that ship, and I'd rather keep it that way. When The Doctor doesn't know something, it's always more interesting and he didn't really venture a guess as to what the ship was or why it was stuck or who made it. Stopping it from fucking over random passers-by and the TARDIS was the only goal.
Re: Doctor Who S5e11 "The Lodger" [Spoilers]
I really want that box for next episode to either be really stupid or... nothing.
I liked the episode, even if the Doctor's bumbling got a tad bit silly, but I'm pretty sure that's the point. Too bad they didn't show much of Colchester. I would have been nice to actually see a place I've been to before (though really, what's to show?). I was actually pleased that the "villain" was just a stupid AI (are there any AIs in Who that don't slaughter people?), rather than some malevolent alien.
One odd moment, what the hell was with the second person the ship took, the black woman? She looked like she'd been attacked or something.

IIRC both of those have gone on the rampage at some point (although K-9's were usually at the Doctor's request).

Don't you people venture outside once in a while? She'd been out on the town, and by the tear stained face and ruffled appearance and lack of company, hadn't had a good night of it. She probably wanted to "leave" that place as much as anyone would want to leave Essex.

I'm actually fairly sure that the Daleks in The Chase had a reasonable approximation of a TARDIS.Crossroads Inc. wrote:Also the alien TARDIS really wields me out. Re: Doctor Who S5e11 "The Lodger" [Spoilers]
Brain dead theory: The AU Tennant Doctor tried to build a TARDIS with the TARDIS coral given to him in that cut scene but it was rubbish so it ended up crash landing on Earth with a faulty matrix that ended up killing people in order to fly it. This is also why the real Doctor interfacing with it would cause it to explode, because it's badly made!
Meanwhile the AU Doctor got trapped in the Pandorica. And is EVIL.

certainly better than the last two episodes. Matt Smith's best performance to date IMO.
I'm hoping that the bit with everyone chanting "Doctor" at the match was a piss take of The Last of the Time Lords (I can actually imagine RTD finding that highly amusing). Maybe that's the whole Jesus Doctor schtick put to bed now (I can only hope).
Nice to see James Cordon on TV and not want to throw things at the screen for once.

All I am going to say is that the "big bad" for the season finale better not be the Valeyard. Or else I am going to spew.

Oh goodness it being the Valeyard would be horrendous. Maybe they going to pick up some of the stuff they planned for the seventh doctor that got cancelled. Maybe its going to be Omega, or the Other. Or just possibly, actually Rassilon not the End of Time random shitty version
I get the distinct feeling this episode was written as a "we need a filler. Quick, throw something together that pokes fun at our own history." Hence the chanting, not using the screwdriver, the "Annihilate? NO" "people always tell me my plans" etc

It's not the Valeyard. Put that one to rest now, folks, it's about as likely as RTD coming on in a gimp mask with a rubber hose.

They could always put in an Evil Doctor who is *not* called the Valeyard, thus having all the cheesiness of making the big bad the Valeyard with the added bonus of having nerds furiously debate as to whether it really was the Valeyard or not.
And you know they're fully capable of this so don't think they won't do it.
