This series is rather obscure to me. Is it worth watching or is it rather "meh"?
The first season and the second up to and including episode 11 are among the best sci-fi there is.
The rest is, with very few exceptions, complete and utter dreck.

Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? You think so, Thanas? I couldn't even get through the first season due to terrible acting and dialogue ("HERCULES IN SPAAAAACE" acting) and a set of characters that weren't particularly interesting*. It's not something I'd put along side the best science fiction out there or even the best science fiction television series out there. It's only real claim to fame was that it ultimately tried its very hardest to be one of the worst televised science fiction series out there.

Obviously tastes will differ, but for me the first 1.5 seasons are easily up there. The Hercules in space acting only features in the premiere and following RHWs tenure. Meanwhile, the quality of the writers is easily attested by their other projects, including many of the best T:SCC episodes.

Let me add my own support to the greatness of Andromeda. Season 1-midpoint of 2 are some of the best sci fi I've seen on tv since the glory days of Babylon 5. The dynamic between Dylan and his crew especially Tyre was always entertaining to watch. How often did the hero captain have to deal with a crew that many times actively opposed his agenda? I'm sure they meant that with Voyager but we saw how well that lasted.
And it had some interesting concepts for the back story. Earth was not important, in fact it's a backwater planet that's sort of a human ghetto. It's universe spanned 3 galaxies and actually had a very good sense of scale. It had continuity. That for me was the biggest point for it. If Dylan fucked up somewhere it usually came back to haunt him. No magic reset buttons, people died, people changed.
Then RHW left and the story quality went straight to shit. I have never seen a show change so drastically in my life.
If you have not seen it before I strongly recommend picking it up and checking it out.
