Iron Man3 photos come out.

Re: Iron Man3 photos come out.
I just hope the teasers and trailers provide at least some context for Iron Patriot. Because seriously, most people are going to be wondering A) why Captain America has an Iron Man suit and B) why is he suddenly evil. I mean shit, according to Wikipedia the Iron Patriot thing was only ever used for like, one arc, so who outside of comic nerds would even know about it? And you'd have to be a nerdier-than-average comic nerd since it's not like this piece of armor or villian is even recurring unlike, say, Sandman probably was for Spiderman comics.
EDIT: Okay so the Wiki article I saw sucks and apparently it was around for two years. Or it took two years to wrap it up. Either way I could be wrong on that, so I struck it out.
Still, to the average moviegoer who knows little to nothing about Iron Man comics (and given the money those films pull in, I'm guessing not everyone who went to see them were comic fans) the first question about "Why is Captain America in armor and evil?" would likely stand.

Re: Iron Man3 photos come out.
It...totally doesn't. Nations and states developing their own stompy robot suits under their direct control - which seems to be what this Iron Patriot-thing is going to be, given the Armour Wars rumours - is a direct follow-on from the whole arms race stuff in Iron Man 2. The only things that don't sound like a perfectly natural outgrowth of stuff in IM2 are the Mandarin - which apparently will just be a cameo - and Extremis. Given that the Extremis story in the comics was a legitimately interesting concept I'm willing to be optimistic.Ahriman238 wrote:So we have an Iron Patriot/cyborg, the Mandarin, some of Extremis and some of Armor Wars? This sounds more like an ungodly mess than anything.
Just to compare, if you think IM3 is shaping up to be a mishmash of lots of disparate elements from the comics, look at IM2. That had just as many: HAMMER Industries, Whiplash, Crimson Dynamo, War Machine and shades of Ultimates.
On a related note, there hasn't been any news that I've as to whether Adi Granov, the artist of the Extremis arc in the comic and designer of the suits in the first two Iron Man films, will be working on IM3. I hope he does, because his work is pretty neat!

Though to be fair it becomes a lot better if you just skip the middle bit with Fury, stark's daddy issues and creating a new element.

Really cool, even if it looks a little too much like Captain America's uniform. Oh well!

The Arms race does make sense given the plot of IM2 -- and as I pointed out on the previous page, the Chitauri invasion is likely going to fuel other countries' attempts to develop more technologically advanced war-suits or weapons.

In the comics it was a pretty cynical attempt to manipulate public perception, with Cap dead and Tony out of the superhero business, Osborn sort of cast himself as both.Action Avenue wrote:Really cool, even if it looks a little too much like Captain America's uniform. Oh well!

There is so many rumoured plot points that I just wonder how they will squeeze all of them in (assuming these plot points are true). That is the armoured wars, extremis, Mandarin storylines. It runs the risk of being a mess like Spiderman 3, which to be honest managed to showcase a little bit of the plot points. Although I think its best if we don't focus in too much of each.
I can imagine the extremis and armor war storylines merging, the extremis tech is just another weapon tech the government is researching.

For all we know the star-spangled armor is also just a cameo: someone paints up the War Machine armor in this ridiculous getup or something.

I was wondering about that, if it might just be a repainted War Machine armor.Simon_Jester wrote:For all we know the star-spangled armor is also just a cameo: someone paints up the War Machine armor in this ridiculous getup or something.
Re: Iron Man3 photos come out.
Except the character of Eric Savan has been cast and the pic has him being the Iron Patriot but if he's also just a cameo, this leaves only Firepower as the villain.Simon_Jester wrote:For all we know the star-spangled armor is also just a cameo: someone paints up the War Machine armor in this ridiculous getup or something.

You only really need one high-profile villain per Iron Man movie, and one more subdued guy who doesn't put on a big suit.

Isn't he the last guy from the Armor wars storyline. The one that defeated the Silver Centurion model of the IM suit? If thats him I include him in the armored wars storyline.Enigma wrote:Don't forget Firepower.mr friendly guy wrote:There is so many rumoured plot points that I just wonder how they will squeeze all of them in (assuming these plot points are true). Somehow, I don't really see him looking less goofy than the Iron Patriot.

Re: Iron Man3 photos come out.
I think this one can potentially be better than 2 at least. The Mandarin stays behind the scenes, likely with a short cameo where he finally obtains he prize, Stark style Iron tech. You already have the through plot, in IM1 he wants Starktech and kidnaps him for it, Tony responds with the development of Iron Man, which the Mandarin likes and tries to get his hands on through his agents. In IM2 the Mandarin sends Ivan Vanko after Tony to both further develop the tech and possibly gain access to it, while putting pressure on everyone to develop Iron tech of their own, so he can steal it. In IM3 his plan comes to fruition with the tech starting to get mass produced since people are developing it around the world. His machinations result in the creation of the Iron Patriot, Firepower, and the Extremis virus, which is likely going to factor into how Eric Savin can interface with his armor (in the comics Eric was a cyborg super-soldier). Extremis was created to make super soliders like Cap, but through a technological means that can be fine tuned and as opposed to the "makes good great and bad worse" problem with the old way, but also had the benefit of essentially letting anyone "infected" to interface with tech at will. It all fits together in terms of Armor Wars/Super Soldier serum chasing.
Re: Iron Man3 photos come out.
New photo is up. It's not much, but there's an undeniable thrill of seeing the Marks 1-7 in a single shot.
Re: Iron Man3 photos come out.
First of all I have always hated the Mandarin.
Tony's best villain has always been himself. His drinking and what it leads to: The Armor Wars, losing Stark Industries, losing his friends, and even losing Iron Man.
Since they don't seem to really want to touch on that more than a little bit, I want MORE armored villains. SHIELD stealing from Stark, Hammer, AIM, Hydra etc. and using his technology for evil/good, but without his consent.
It goes back to the first movie where he goes on his crusade to track down his guns that Stane was selling. It fits perfect with the overall theme of responsibility in the movies so far.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
