For real dude? Do you want to reread what you wrote and amend it?

Ok... Idris Elba.

According to the bets taken (but suspended) in the U.K. it appears that the going favorite is Peter Capaldi. Seems the opposite of choosing a young actor.

EDIT: Of for crying out loud, he was in WWZ as a W.H.O. Doctor? Somehow, I believe those trying to figure out who will be the next Doctor have gone stupid. *shrugs*

I'm hoping its Capaldi, he's a proven actor, and he's less likely to feck off to Hollywood after a year.

My pick would be Anthony Stewart Head.
British. Solid acting chops. Bring in a bunch of Buffy fandom.

Didn't Head appear in "School Renuion" opposite David Tennant?

Indeed, he did. But it's not the first time an actor has had multiple roles in Doctor Who - even extending to the character of the Doctor himself.

If Capaldi, Elba, or Head are chosen (and I think any of them would be fine) it would be the first time I've seen the actor playing the Doctor playing a role prior to the lead in Who. It would be interesting.

I don't know much about Capaldi.

I'd like it if it was Anthony Stewart Head. He was very good on BTVS, and an older Doctor would add some more variety.

My wish list of people who will probably never get picked includes Alexander Siddig and Michelle Dockery.

Capaldi is famous for one particular role in the last decade.

I first saw Capaldi in Local Hero, but a quick check of the IMDB shows that he, too, was in Who before, in "The Fires of Pompeii". Also Torchwood.

Really, I don't give a fig who they pick (male, female, white/black/Asian/mix, young, old) as long as the actor does a good job and I'm entertained.

Just a couple of more hours and we find out...

Well, Radio Times.com says it's an established name rather than a newcomer.

Well that's interesting. I think I've only seen him in his Doctor Who/Torchwood roles.

Despite myself I might actually tune for his episodes to see if he's actually distinct from ten/eleven.

Well he's significantly older than the last few Doctors which might make things a bit different, such as a more action based companion maybe. I can see him being a bit more sensible than Matt Smith's Doctor but that's up to the writers.

There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but another white man is anti-climactic after all the speculation about a black or female Doctor. I wouldn't have minded Anthony Stewart Head, but he's Anthony Stewart Head.

At least Capaldi is relatively old. An old Doctor is something new as far as the new series is concerned.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Indeed. Isn't that a first for the show? Loving the butthurt from some fans on the social networks over this. Many being girls wanting a younger guy like Tom Hiddleston.

Me, I'm quite content to have a male lead who is in my age range rather than jailbait from my perspective.

Assuming he makes his debut on Christmas Day, he'll actually be second only to William Hartnell (by about two months, if my math is correct) in terms of age.
