Unfortunately Asgard is a giant plot destroyer. Any sufficient threat to Earth (or any of the realms they protect) should bring down Asgard's armies, just like we see in Thor 2. Of course Asgardians are stupidly powerful and deploying a few hundred of them anywhere, instantly (as in the opening scene of Thor 1) would probably put an end to a lot of threats really fucking quickly. But of course this is little fun for any sort of scenario.

I maintain that any AI willing to kill the Avengers intelligently will do so with relative ease, excluding Thor and Hulk.

Well, you may be thinking of Asgard wrong as well. They may consider Ultron Earth's problem. As well as, well, small. They sent one of their one man hit squads when a non-Earth problem came to Earth in the form of the Sorceress as well as the Kree. Things that are, on a level, would take a higher crew than humans normally.
