Yes, obviously I haven't seen a *lot* of Doctor Who thus far, otherwise I wouldn't be inquiring
Thanks all. Very helpful mates. Not sure I'll get around to watching all of the recommendations before it goes off Netflix, but I'll certainly try!

Oh, if you do watch the season 9 premier (The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar), you might want to watch the previous season's finale (Death in Heaven/Dark Water) first.

How goes the last-minute dose of Who?
Since I've been home very sick the last two days I've taken advantage of the situation to do some binge-watching myself.

Re: Doctor Who: Recommendations?
Only managed to fit in a few Tennant episodes-- if I remember correctly, Christmas Invasion, the one where they first encounter the Cybermen, Girl in the Fireplace, the ones with the Beast, and that fucking sad finale with the Daleks, Cybermen, and Rose getting stuck in the parallel world. After that the only one I managed to see were 'Smith and Jones' and 'Blink'.Broomstick wrote:How goes the last-minute dose of Who?

Blink I thought was fairly well done, it probably loses a lot of its impact a few years down the road though when you already know the gimmick and what's going on in that episode.

Re: Doctor Who: Recommendations?
For the purposes of following series arcs, this is very good. I would just note some episodes in that list that could be removed with the story still pretty much working: Gridlock (the revelation in that won't make a vast difference to the story flow), Voyage of the Damned, Time of Angels/ Flesh and Stone (you see that in other episodes anyway), Asylum of the Daleks (plot point never went anywhere), The Caretaker (without certain other episodes, that plot point is unnecessary), The Woman who Lived (the other two episodes on that are sufficant, Clara skipped the episode).Tribble wrote:Hmm upon further reflection you could probably take out a some of those episodes and the season would still work. Timed out before I could edit it:
Tennant:
Season 2:
The Christmas Invasion
Rise of the Cybermen / the Age of Steel
Army of Ghosts / Doomsday
Season 3:
The Runaway Bride
Smith and Jones
Gridlock
Utopia / the Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords
Season 4.
Voyage of the Damned
Partners in Crime
Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead
Turn Left
Stolen Earth / Journey's End
Specials:
Waters of Mars
The End of Time Part 1 / 2:
Smith:
Season 5:
The Eleventh Hour
The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone
The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood
The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang
Season 6:
The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon
The Rebel Flesh / The Almost People
A Good Man Goes to War
Let's Kill Hitler
The Wedding of River Song
Season 7:
Asylum of the Daleks
The Angels take Manhattan
The Snowmen
The Bells of Saint John
The Name of the Doctor
The Day of the Doctor
The Time of the Doctor
Capaldi:
Season 8:
Deep Breath
Listen
The Caretaker
Dark Water / Death in Heaven
Season 9 (when it comes out):
The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar
The Girl Who Died
The Women Who Lived
Face the Raven / Heaven Sent / Hell Bent
The Husbands of River Song
Again, watching for the story arcs isn't necessarily the best way to go, but there you have it.

"Midnight," "Silence In the Library/Forest Of the Dead," for Tennant.Elheru Aran wrote:Oi all,
So Netflix is closing Doctor Who after February 1st. That's new Who, btw, I don't know what they're doing with the "Classic Who" they have. It won't be back until August or September of this year, presumably after the next season of Capaldi airs. Which sucks because this is the first chance I've had to really watch Doctor Who since... college. ~10 years ago.
I just finished the 9th Doctor season today. What do you suggest as far as watching in Tennant, Smith, and Capaldi episodes before that date? What can be skipped without losing too much?
Thanks!
"A Good Man Goes To War," for Smith.

Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him, drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of Death.."
