Has anyone mentioned the people in charge of "tactics" in the movie Starship Troopers?
I enjoy that movie but geez did they have their heads up their asses in about every way.

Longshadow. Because of his insane ego and paranoia he kept Mogaba tied to the Dandha Presh, didn't allow him to actually engage the Company, allowed himself to be tricked by Blade. His blind drive to finish Overlook and bring about the end of the world prevented him from taking any offensive actions into Taglian territory at all. Futhermore, he hamstrung the efforts of the other Shadowmasters by keeping his armies back around Kialune.
Now Mogaba's 'Hold until the last man falls' stand at the Dandha Presh was rather foolish, but it was still Longshadow's fault, and, to be far, he didn't know about the Shaded Road project.
Rob Stark deserves a smack on the head for letting the Lannisters utterly destroy him like they did. He never lost a battle but as soon as Tywin started plotting his whole realm came crashing down on his head.

Let's not forget the Protoss Judicator's and their vaunted Conclave. They believed they could defeat the Swarm as they had vanquished their other enemies, and they paid horribly for it. Even after Tassadar, Raynor, and Zeratul pulled the Empire's collective ass out of the fire, the Judicators, namely Aldaris, grew increasingly belligerant. While Aldaris was proven correct in his suspicions about the Matriarch, his rebellion was a display of arrogance and incompetence that is difficult to match.

MY favorite blunder is in Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory. The call for a Naval Review to put on a display of force was arrogant enough. But the Feddie commanders knew the Enemy was somewhere out there with a high powered nuclear weapon. The worst thing they could do was get all their ships together in one place. Anavel Gato took out 2/3 of their entire fleet with one shot.

Battlestar Galactica
I think one nominee for the booby-prize has to be President Adar of the Twelve Colonies, with at least four of his battlestar commanders as co-nominees. Not only does Adar stupidly decide to trust peace overtures from a race which up until only two weeks before was committed to genocide, he agrees to all the Cylons' conditions for the treaty rendezvous, strips his homeworlds of their defence forces to bunch his fleet's primary assets in one point in space, and even when hundreds of fightercraft are clearly on screen, in attack formation, refuses to allow his fleet to come to battle alert. Four battlestar commanders also take no action, on presidential orders, to bring their ships to any sort of defensive posture.
They deserved to lose that war.

I was about to say I didn't remember that happening, but I was thinking of Saganami, not Santino. Yeah, Santino was an idiot, and it made it worse that he kicked the only subordinate to have a grasp on the situation off the ship. Definitely not bright.Dahak wrote:Admiral Elvis Santino deserves a mentioning.
Getting his own task force completely blown out of space just because he wanted "to show the flag" to a Peep battlegroup...
On a similar note, the Hell garrison deserves a mention too. While they may have been slightly justified in that their planet was a secret, there's still no real excuse for a prison garrison to get complacent.
