My top 5:
1. Glorious Heritage Class Heavy Cruiser
This one's not bad, not bad at all. Install a security system that works better than that ineffectual shower of sparks, and it's pretty good to go.

2. General Contact Unit
I don't know a thing about the Culture, so no comment. Anyone else know what this is?

3. Sovereign Class Starship
Well, it's preferable to a Galaxy.

4. Vorlon Dreadnought
I kind of like it, except that it looks like a Mighty Morphin' Bioship.

5. Imperial Star Destroyer
What? I was hoping for a higher rating for this. A Sovereign, of all things, beat it? It should be #1!

Tip for new people: put as low a value on Research as you can. It puts those crappy Galaxy classes way down. :)

Sure we all like reasearch because it gets us closer to the dream of owning one of these beauties, but since Galaxy-class is evil, we have to lie a bit to keep it off the top of our list. ;)

The question was if reasearch and science are an end in itself.
The logic behind that question is if you think science isn't an end in itself you will only conduct scientific research if you expect results from it (ie new weapons technology).
Oh and after I changed the 'do you think well under pressure' question (answer no) from low to high priority I got the ImpStar as #1.

I'd conduct scientific research because results would come from it, even if I thought the results had no bearing on technology at the time.

Just look at lasers. WHen they were first made, they were just considered to be a nice little sideshow trick

So while I expect results to come from my Science, I don't expect them to come immediately, and I enjoy the thrill of scientific discovery.... Scientific knowledge and technology rise hand in hand. you use technology to more accurately measure your scientific hypotheses which, if correct, give you the knowledge to greate better instruments (technology) with witch to measure scientific principles.....

What would you answer in that situation? I quite simply don't really separate the science and technology that much, since they compliment each other...

Correct, it may take some time until scientific research shows results.
But scientists should never forget that they are researching to get results, after all.

It is not well for one to trifle in the affairs of the ancient Chinese generals, for they have a tendency to send armies of tens of thousands of warriors after those who challenge them.

I'm not sure why some people are upset with the ships they got when they answered the questions the first time. The first ship in the list is supposed to represent your personality.

If you got the Galaxy class ship, that is pretty cool. Means you are scientifically oriented, prefer to gauge the intentions of new comers before blowing them to hell.
In my case I got the Shadow Crab (I really prefer spider) - so in terms of personality (I did not tweak the results - these were from my first answer) - it seems as though I like a little disorder (ref my desk) and don't mind thinking what I'm thinking about you before you even speak. Then of course, I blast the hell out of you.
Borg Cube - gotta admit, it was until Voyager the only remaining cool species in ST. Personality wise - maybe you seek power via a manipulative mean, thereby converting (assimilating) your enemies into your ranks. Before you blast the hell out of them!

What is interesting (though I put absolutely no weight into this thing at all!) is that many people who took the little quiz that post here regularly, have the same ship in the top one! What does that say about your common interests, ignoring any stupid notions that the quiz could possibly represent personality.

Hell, remember, no matter what, all the ships have one great ability. In their own galaxies, they get to blast the hell out of the other folks! w00t!!!
First drafts go into the trashcan. Third drafts get published. Come on Shadows kick some ass!

There will never be a resolution in the evolution vs creationism debate because neither side can conclusively prove that they are right. The creationists can't prove that they're right becuase they're not, and the evolutionists can't prove that they're right because the creationists are too damn stupid to listen.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
