Megatron's not out. He's in it. Hugo Weaving confirmed he did dialog for the movie. The TF2 toy of him is a modified version of his original form, except he's a Cybertronian tank in this rather than a jet - he's been repaired from the parts of the other dead Decepticons thrown into the ocean

Im just not sure what to think of that, you'd think a robot wouldn't experience "age" any component could just be replaced over time. And even if stuck on earth, unable to get Cybertronian parts, you could just grab any old piece of metal for a "cane" not part of your own construction... It just seems so...silly, and yet, me and my Boyfriend found it hysterical, he even has little metal plates around his face to make it look like he has a beard.

I also enjoy the portrayal of the Decepticons as resorting to increasingly brutal methods to win. Before they would just kill you in some traditional method, now they'll fucking eat you.

I apologize for harking back to the first page, but I gotta ask: Why the hell are some of the fanboys complaining that there was too much human involvement in the first film? It's set on the planet fucking Earth. Y'know, the one with 6 billion odd homo sapiens running around who definitely won't take robots having destructive smackdowns in cities sitting down. In fact, one of my favorite parts of the film is that the US military wasn't portrayed as some helpless bunch of redshirts, but actually competent and definitely not ineffectual.

I paid to see a movie called Transformers about giant robots called Transformers beating the shit out of other giant robots also called Transformers. I don't give a shit if it's set on Earth or there is a human sidekick, but I do expect to see, you know, Transformers having more than a glorified cameo in what was a movie about a human having a stock crush on another human while humans run around and there is maybe a robot somewhere in the background perhaps?

The problem is not that there was too much human involvement, not directly. The problem is that there was virtually no characterisation of the supposedly main characters. The fight scenes seem boring because you don't have any reason to care about the combatants. 'Too much human involvement' is based on the assumption that Michael Bay did this because he thought that all the human stuff had to be in the movie and that more characterisation of the transformers was ruled out by running time concerns - but it may just be that no one involved had a clue how to make their giant robots into real characters. Plenty of other action movies manage to have lots of fights without being boring, and engaging romantic subplots without devoting a third of the movie to fumbling teen bullshit. Therefore I can confidently declare the writing in the first film to be awful.

I think perhaps Michael Bay may have learned the wrong lesson./.. After the first movie, a lot of people cried "We didn't get enough of the robots! too many humans!" So it seems hes more then doubled the amount of robots in the movie... But thats not really it, I personally want more character development. Nothing wrong with how MANY robots where in the first movie, but for petes sake give them some actual dialog and character building.

Remember the point of the film from Hasbro's perspective is to sell more toys. I imagine there'll be a higher fatality count in this film than the last so perhaps some of these new characters (or the recurring ones) won't be around for long. I have a rather strong feeling that Optimus Prime is going to die in this film. He needs to die in every continuity - it's part of his schtick and at least if he dies this film then number three could be about bringing him back. Because resurrecting like Christ is also his thing.

RotF has about the same running length as the first so given there's not going to be an hour with just the one Autobot kicking around there's a lot more opportunity for the Transformers characters to talk. As long as we don't get an hour of generic US college comedy instead.
