If the Nazi's are the film's protagonist I would agree with you Hav. But if they're the film's villains who need a goodthumpin/shooting/blowing up/whatever. How is that different to using them in Indiana Jones or Captain America or indeed Inglorious Bastards or X-Men Origins or any other film with them being a convenient code for 'irredeemable bad guy'.

Inglorious Basterds.... riiight. The movie that can be summed up as "internet tough guy posing". I guess moral crusaders hate Mel Brooks too, he has made nazis into comical characters at one point. It looks to me like the outrage people are too busy climbing on their high horse and wrapping themselves in sheets with "Remember the jooz!!" slogans that they forget to pay attention while galloping into the sunset. It's blatantly obvious from the trailer alone that they are vilifying the nazis to the point of making them into caricatures of the real thing. Nazis have been the villains / comic characters from the fucking 1940's so at this point it's just silly to huff and puff with self righteous indignation about this one movie.
As to the quality of the movie, I'll tell you after I've seen it.

I approve of making the Nazis comically inept, because frankly, i think it would upset them more. They seem to be the sort of people who would be pleased that 60 years after the only real Nazi power ever was crushed we still tiptoe around them and get the vapours every time someone brings them up, but driven to stammering maddness by anyone laughing at them and how they were all batshit mental. And I think we should do it more because thats the best thing to do to anyone who takes themselves too seriously.

it is very hard to think of anybody as "hero" and "villain" in that story. It is a typical Tarantino movie of blood, gore and witty dialogue. Nothing else.

I liked how Tarantino was constantly fucking with the audience's expectations.

Like, take for example, Hugo Stiglitz' introduction. His name is lifted from a Mexican actor Tarantino loved, the music playing as he gratuitously slaughtered Nazzies is from a friggin' blaxploitation movie, and he killed two Nazzies in the most preposterous ways possible, one by waking the poor guy up before sticking his fist into the mang's throat, and the other with a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly homage but instead of pillow-then-gun he does a pillow-and-then-stab-the-man's-face thing... but why did he use a pillow? Sure, you can use that to silence your sixshooter. But when you're sticking a longknife into the guy's facial features? While narrated by Samuel L. Jackson?

And then this is followed by Morricone music, epic-like in a big gundown thing, before a guy is beaten to death with a bat. And almost all of the Basterds, Aldo's crew, look like complete shmucks. Look at that scene where they're lined up while Aldo gives his speech. All those guys... looked like... shmucks.

Why did Christoph Waltz have to talk in, what, four different languages? He has the Basterds make the most ridiculous Italian accents before Landa goes on eloquently in Italian. Man. GORLAME! GRAT-ZEE! ANNNTONIO MARGAREEETTIIII!!!!!!

I am convinced that Tarantino was just trolling the hell out of the audience and having the lulz, and the best part of his bullshit movies that are unpretentious is that we love being trolled and end up partaking in the lulz.

He's just playing around with bullshit conventions. I mean, Jesus Christ, intricate camera cuts, flashbacks in flashbacks in flashbacks, scene switches so well done, transitions, epic music. All so we can see some shmucks beat some guys to death with a stick. God. WHY?

It is brilliant. This is, like, exactly like Tarantino's previous work wherein we have Kurt Russel getting beaten to death by cheerleaders in that two-part movie that also has Robert Rodriguez chronicle the exploit of a stripper who gets her foot eaten by zombies and exacts revengeance by replacing her amputated limb with an M16 with an M203 grenade launcher.

I grew up with this tasteless program on TV called 'Allo, 'Allo and this perfectly echoes my feelings on what I felt every time they aired that thing.
