It is a terrible, horrible hentai series, which according to some, must not be seen.
Having seen two episodes of La Blue Girl is the reason why I'm a 39 year-old virgin.

OK, not really, but two episodes is enough to make one swear off sex and anything sex-related for life.

Ha, I've seen all six episodes of the original OVA, and the first of the second!! :P

All in all, it's really messed up, pretty violent at times, and fairly misogynistic. The episodes have you going "Oh, yeah" one minute and "Jesus Christ!" the next. I'd really recommend not seeing it, as you're not missing out on anything.

Anyway, back on the main topic...

One of the reasons I'm so pessemistic about live action remakes like this and the upcoming Akira and Dragon Ball Z films is for two reasons:

1. I really don't think that they will result in a workable and well made end product.

2. Keeping my opinion about these kind of films low will eliminate in any disapointment I might have when seeing it. I will either have my initial beliefs confirmed if they are horrible, or I'll be pleasently surprised in the off-chance that they are actually any good.

But it's mostly for the first reason. I just don't have a good feeling about this...

Considering the announcement and press release were only released in the last 2 days, and sum up all the info available, I have no clue where you pulled this assumption from.

The Eva's will also now shoot energy beams and scream the names of ancient Chinese martial arts techinques.

I figured that they planned to do something new with EVA, but that totally caught me off-guard. Nice job Ganiex, you've once again come out of left field to fuck everyone up. :D

I don't know about the scripts for the original versions of Episodes 25 and 26 (or at least 25, as it had a complete script, while I don't know if 26's was past the planing or draft stage) had live action sequences, but as we know there is one in 26' of EoE.

The EoE live action sequence was originally quite different, and featured a firmer narrative structure, with actors taking the roles of Shinji, Asuka, Misato, etc...: done as if Second Impact didn't happen.

While it was filmed and finished, they didn't really use any of it in the final version of the film, the clips and dialogue in the theatrical trailer at the start of the DVD (before the TV spot, parade of logos, and film proper) are all from that footage.

You can read the script for the original sequence here:
http://www.evaotaku.com/html/liveaction.html

There also is some sort of live action "thing" on the promotional DVD (I think) for the restored TV series as part of the Renewal of Evangelion project currently occuring, but I really don't know what that is. I'll have to check on that some time...

Don't forget the 3rd reason:

3. Some ideas work better animated than live-action.

No, despite what the poster hints at, he played an FBI agent who ends up being turned into a cocroach-man and dieing.
